Aggie Softball concludes Texas A&M Invitational with 8-7 win over SFA
Despite a seventh-inning rally by the SFA Lumberjacks, the Aggies managed to get their 10th straight win to conclude the Texas A&M Invitational.
The Aggies scored early, while the Lumberjacks had a quiet first couple of innings. With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, Sarah Hudek popped it up to left field. Thanks to an error by the Lumberjack left fielder, Tori Vidales and Kaitlyn Alderink were able to put two runs on the board for the home team.
SFA scored once in the top of the third inning, but the Aggies answered with four runs. With two runners on, Samantha Show hit a double to score Sarah Hudek and Ashley Walters. That was followed by a double to center field by Riley Sartain to score Kristen Cuyos and an Alderink single to center field to score Sartain.
The score held until the bottom of the sixth inning. With Miranda Miles on first, Cuyos launched a ball over the left field wall to extend the Aggie's lead, 8-1.
Needing only three outs to clinch the victory, the Aggies gave up six runs in the top of the seventh inning. Lexi Smith walked three players before she was replaced by Samantha Show in the circle. Show walked her first batter but proceeded to strike out the second, giving Texas A&M their second out of the inning with an 8-7 lead. The nail-biter ended with a ground-out to first base, and the Aggies extended their winning streak to ten games.
Up next, Texas A&M Softball will travel to Cathedral City, California for the Mary Nutter Classic and will take on the Long Beach State 49ers on February 23rd at 5 p.m.
