No. 15 Texas A&M demolishes Georgia in Athens, 79-45
It took five tries for Texas A&M to post its first basketball victory over Georgia, but the Aggies got it in convincing fashion.
A&M took an early double-digit lead and was never seriously threatened in route to a 79-45 Southeastern Conference victory in Athens.
The 15th-ranked Aggies (15-2, 5-0 SEC) are undefeated after five league games for the first time since 1986 when they were in the Southwest Conference.
Jalen Jones, Danuel House and Alex Caruso all scored a dozen points to lead a balanced A&M scoring attack. Tyler Davis, Anthony Collins and Tonny Trocha-Morelos each scored nine.
Jones also had 12 rebounds.
The Aggies shot 52.7 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range (11 of 22), while limiting Georgia to 28.3 percent shooting.
Georgia (9-6, 2-3) was led by forward Yante Matin with 11 points. Guard Charles Mann had eight.
The Aggies were in control from the outset en route to taking a 38-23 halftime lead.
That was Georgia’s lowest point total for a first half this season.
Georgia also committed eight first half turnovers, which A&M transformed into 14 points.
Davis converted all four shots he took in the first half to post nine points. House had seven points and Caruso had six via two three-point field goals.

The Aggies maintained at least a six-point lead for 15-and-a-half minutes of the first half and at one point allowed Georgia just one field goal over a span of seven minutes.
Caruso and Jones hit three-pointers and House converted a three-point play as the Aggies opened an early 11-3 lead.
The Aggies began to pull away when Caruso, D.J. Hogg and House hit consecutive three-pointers for a 32-18 lead with 3:38 left in the half.
The margin swelled to 17 points, 38-21, on a Collins driving layup with 1:10 left.
Georgia’s Mike Edwards was able to get open for a dunk that completed the first half scoring.
A&M was even more dominant in the second half.
Jones opened the second half scoring with a baseline reverse layup for a 40-23 lead. That just set the tone for what was to come.
The Bulldogs got no closer than 45-32 after J.J. Frazier hit a three-pointer with 17:07 showing.
Undaunted, Jones answered with a jumper, Caruso followed with a driving layup down the middle of the lane and House drilled a three-pointer for a 52-32 lead with 13:30 remaining.
The margin eventually reached 31 points, 76-45, when Juan Aparicio banked in a three-pointer with 1:18 to play.
Recent addition Kobie Eubanks added a three-pointer in the final minute to account for the final score.
The 34-point victory was a welcome relief for the Aggies, who had to sweat out hard-fought wins over Mississippi State, Tennessee and Florida.
It was A&M’s most lopsided victory since defeating Southeast Louisiana 100-58 on Nov. 16.
The Aggies return to Reed Arena on Tuesday night to face LSU.
