Aggies pick up commitment from Smyrna (Tenn.) DB Ikenna Okeke

Ikenna Okeke was once thought to be a heavy Notre Dame lean.

That was before Texas A&M jumped head-first into the 2016 Smyrna (Tenn.) athlete's recruitment.

On Wednesday Okeke announced his commitment to the Aggies, completing a quick process that saw him receive an October offer from A&M and leave a November visit to Aggieland enthralled with the program.

John Chavis and the Aggies envision the 6-2, 200-pound Okeke filling a role to current sophomore Donovan Wilson, who has been a ball-hawk from the nickel position.

Okeke joins good friend Tyrel Dodson of Centennial (Franklin, Tenn.) as the second Tennessean — and second among the state's top 10 defensive players — in the Aggies' 2016 recruiting class. He also held offers from Penn State, Stanford, Tennessee and Missouri, among others.

The Aggies now hold 18 commitments in the 2016 class, including three defensive backs.
