Get to Know ... A&M pitcher Ryan Hendrix

On his mindset going into Saturday's start against Arkansas…

“Just doing the same thing. Mix in my curve ball and change up. I mean, I’ve had three relief innings this year so I’m just excited to go even longer.”

On being an All-State basketball player in high school…

“Yeah, basketball was just to stay in shape at a 1A school. All we had was basketball and baseball so we didn’t have many other activities to do. I just played basketball to stay in shape and I was actually good at it.”

On transferring to a new high school his senior year…

“It was fun. I knew a couple guys at Cypress Woods so I felt comfortable there. I talked to the coach before I actually came so it was fun and exciting to play with new guys. It was fun.”

On being drafted out of high school…

“I knew I wanted to come to college. It wasn’t an issue to me. It was cool getting drafted and all but coach wanted me here and I wanted to come here so it was a fun experience.”

On why he chose A&M…

“Coach Childress and the pitching staff. I came on a visit here my junior year and it just felt like home to me here. It was just a blessing being able to come here.”

On his favorite thing about the guys on the team...

“Intensity. Corbin Martin cracks me up everyday when we go in there and everybody really. We have the whammy machine going and it’s just a crazy atmosphere when we are in the dugout.”

On any superstitions…

“Yeah I actually have one. Before games and after warm-ups I stand like five feet from the wall and throw as hard as I can against the wall. It’s just something I have always done, I don’t know.”
