#20 A&M softball takes two of three against #9 Kentucky
The Texas A&M softball team hosted the Kentucky Wildcats this weekend in its SEC opener. The Aggies took the series, but fell short Sunday in a 12:00 game against the Wildcats.
On Friday, after seven scoreless innings, the Aggies were able to take the lead and win an extra-inning contest.
Brittany Clopton led the bottom of the eighth with a double down the left field line. One batter later, Tori Vidales walked. Cali Lanphear stepped up to the plate to try to end it, but went down swinging for the second out. Next up, April Ryan hit a walk-off home-run to right field, sending Vidales and Clopton home and winning the game for the Aggies.
The Aggies continued to roll on Saturday, taking a 6-3 win over the Wildcats.
The score went back and forth in the first two innings, but a single through the left side from Kristen Cuyos sent Ryan home, giving the Aggies a 3-2 lead. Later, a double from pinch-hitter Breanna Dozier sent Lanpher, Ryan and Reagan Boenker home, which gave the Ags a 6-2 lead.
The pitcher, Rachel Fox, let one run score in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough for the Wildcats to take the game.
Sunday’s game ended the fun, however, as Kentucky beat Texas A&M 3-2 in the series finale. Katie Marks in the circle for the Aggies only allowing three runs on four hits, two of them home runs.
