Aggie Flashback with former A&M point guard Sydney Colson

“I like coaching. It is just so different being on the other side. When you’re a player, even if you’re on the bench, when you’re watching a game you know you can get in and impact the game physically. Being on staff, some things you watch that might frustrate you. When you’re frustrated you realize that this is what the coaches used to feel like with me when I made mistakes. Now I can’t actually get out there, so it is different now still being in a competitive mindset.”

“I told the team, I know you don’t want to end your conference season with two losses like that, especially with the way Missouri happened. But, this is the start of a new season. When you have a team that is down emotionally, because of the loss of Jordan (Jones) and everything she brought to the team, you still have another capable and energetic good point guard in Curtyce Knox. She just has to come in and have confidence. I’ve been telling them we’re about to start a new season with the conference tournament, we have a chance to go undefeated there and then the big tournament. We still have a chance to determine our own destiny.”

“Jordan has already broken so many records and established herself as a point guard. When I tore my ACL, I felt like I needed to be back because we had a freshman coming in, Sydney Carter, who looking back would have been more than capable. I was the experienced one who would be coming back my sophomore year, but Jordan will be coming back for her senior year. She knows what it takes and what the SEC is like. She has all the time in the world to get better.”

“I get nostalgic sometimes and I’ll go back and watch old games and I always say that team my freshman year were the ones that taught us how to be competitive, how to have work ethic. We made it to the Elite Eight and almost beat Tennessee, that was a special team. As the years went on, I saw the difference when Danielle Adams got here. Looking at her size and skill set, I could tell there was going to be nobody who could match up with her.”

“Just when you think a team cant beat you three times, we were up and after halftime and Baylor found a way to get it into Britney (Griner) and it was too much for us to handle. We lost in the 2011 Big 12 Championship and it left a bad taste in our mouth.”

"When the bracket came out in 2011, we were jumping for joy at because everyone on the team wanted another shot at Baylor. You aren’t supposed to overlook people, but we were doing that. We’re going to take care of them and them we wanted Baylor.”

“It was a big game in Dallas, both Texas schools, but we felt like losing was not happening again. We came out and Danielle wasn’t scoring a bunch but Sydney Carter had the first half of her life. A lot of the steals on Griner when she was trying to make a move were big. I made two turnovers trying to take it down the court, but I got a steal and went down and got an and one. That was big for me.”

“I remember the last second inbounds play against Stanford, they made a good play and hit a layup and the crowd went crazy. We had always talked about getting out and going whether we are down or up. I remember in one of the post-game interviews, Tyra (White) said, 'I knew Syd would just want me to run.' If you look at the film, she’s sprinting and they are backpedaling, there was an opening and she just hit it.”

“Tyra's late three against Notre Dame in the title game was one of our inbound plays that broke down. I think we were trying to get it to Danielle but it wasn’t there, so Tyra moved over and hit it. The blue and gold confetti was one last slap in the face. But we didn’t care at that point, we won.”
