Five-star DT Daylon Mack recommits to A&M on Signing Day
A long and stress-filled journey to Signing Day left Aggies exasperated when one of the 2015 class' gems, Daylon Mack, decommitted on Dec. 19 after a tumultuous 14 months as a Texas A&M verbal.
But on National Signing Day, during a ceremony televised on ESPNU, the recruitment of Gladewater's star defensive tackle ended where it began: with a pledge to Kevin Sumlin's Aggies, this one confirmed with a signed Letter of Intent.
The sight of Mack in A&M gear on Signing Day once seemed far-fetched when he named a top two of TCU and LSU after his decommitment from the Aggies, but the twists and turns were far from over.
Defensive coordinator John Chavis' move to Aggieland propelled A&M back into the race; Mack then enjoyed a January official visit to College Station and a spur-of-the-moment official to Austin a week later and canceled a final unofficial to Fort Worth. Reports surfaced at the start of this week that the East Texas standout had told the coaching staff at Texas, then later TCU, that it was out of the race.
On Wednesday he finally rejoined Allen QB Kyler Murray and Saguaro (Ariz.) WR Christian Kirk as five-stars in the Aggies' class.
The 6-0, 315-plus pound Mack was named an MVP of the Under Armour All-American Game. He gives A&M the state's top-rated defensive tackle for the third consecutive year and, along with Kingsley Keke, makes two DTs in the Aggies' lauded 2015 class.
