Autographed 'This is SEC Country' flag flies on historic missions
Sergeant Mike Guidry recently returned from an overseas tour of duty with Security Forces in the 147th Texas International Guard, U.S. Air Force. He served our country in the War on Terror at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia.
Guidry brought with him a Texas A&M flag donated by Aggieland Outfitters and signed by Texas A&M head coach Kevin Sumlin. TexAgs mailed the flag to him at his base and the flag was a part of five historic air strike missions in the battle against ISIS. It even traveled to space on a U-2S over Syria.
The note written on the flag by Sumlin reads: "Thank you for your service to our country. You are our heroes and continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. Gig 'em and God Bless."
Sergeant Guidry visited with Gabe Bock in-studio on Tuesday to celebrate Veteran's Day with anecdotes of his four-month deployment and the sojourn of Sumlin's Aggie flag.
The following is a list of aircraft and missions that the Aggie flag flew on:
• KC10 Tanker
Flown by Captain J.D. Webb, Fighting Texas Aggie Band '09.
Dropped two 500-pound GBU32 bombs during one of the first strike missions over Iraq.
• E3 Sentry (AWACS)
Warfare Officer 1st Lieutenant Paden Allen flew with the flag on a mission on September 23, coordinating F22A Raptors to their targets over Syria.
• U2S
Flew into upper atmosphere above 70,000', photographing areas over Syria.
• F22A Raptor
Third sortie of its historic combat debut over Syria, flown by local Bryan resident, Major Jonathan BRUTE Esparza.
