Aggie volleyball falls to streaking LSU in five sets
The Texas A&M volleyball team entered Thursday's match having won four of its last five and looking for a win over a white-hot LSU squad. Laurie Corbelli and the girls left Reed Arena in search of answers.
The Aggies dropped the match in five sets to a Tiger team that has now won 10 matches in a row. Falling to 15-8 and 7-5 in conference play, the Aggies failed to make up for mental lapses in the second and third sets.
The Aggies took control of the first set early, but completely collapsed in the next two, losing them by a combined score of 50-25. The home team fought back in the fourth set, but fell just short after making a late run in the fifth.
"It comes down to execution," Sullivan said. "You have to have it the whole five sets. It can't just come and go. You have to be consistent with it."
Head coach Laurie Corbelli was even harder on her team after the game, stressing mental toughness and trust.
"Those things can't ever leave," she said, "and I think they just drift in and out of our team sometimes when the going gets tough."
Texas A&M ran into a buzz saw on Thursday night, facing one of the hottest teams in the country. In the coming weeks, this young Aggie team will have to learn to face adversity and overcome it, rather than folding late in games.
The Aggies will have to re-group quickly. They take on the Ole Miss Rebels at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at Reed Arena.
