COLLEGE STATION—Texas A&M University and the University of Notre Dame, two storied football programs steeped in tradition, have agreed to a home-and-home football series in 2024 and 2025.
“When you think of tradition-rich football programs, Texas A&M and Notre Dame are at the top of the list,” Texas A&M Director of Athletics Eric Hyman said. “We are delighted to have them back on the schedule again for the first time since 2001.”
The Fighting Irish will come to Aggieland on Aug. 31, 2024 and the Aggies will return to South Bend, Indiana on Sept. 27, 2025.
The two football programs played a home-and-home series in 2000 and 2001 with the home team each holding serve. Notre Dame won in South Bend in 2000, 24-10, while the Aggies protected Kyle Field with a 24-3 victory in 2001.
The two schools have met in Dallas at the Cotton Bowl three times. The first meeting on the gridiron came Jan. 1, 1988 as the Aggies defeated the Irish and Heisman winner Tim Brown, 35-10. The Irish evened the series on Jan. 1, 1993 as Notre Dame won 28-3. A rematch happened one year later (Jan. 1, 1994) with Notre Dame edging Texas A&M, 24-21.
The Irish lead the all-time series, 3-2.
This continues the non-conference scheduling philosophy at Texas A&M. The Aggies will face Arizona State in 2015 to open the season in Houston and the latest announced home-and-home series was UCLA in 2016 and 2017.
