VBall: Babers leads Aggies to 5th straight win and 3rd straight sweep
COLLEGE STATION, TX – The Texas A&M (16-10; 8-7 SEC) volleyball team continued their November dominance on Sunday, against the Auburn Tigers (17-10; 8-7 SEC), as the Aggies posted their fifth straight match victory.
Not only did the young Aggie squad find a way to capture their fifth victory, but they managed to keep the Tigers from winning a single set improving their sweep streak to three matches and sending the Tigers packing 3-0.
The Aggies were led by redshirt freshman, Jazzmin Babers, who posted 10 kills and nine blocks out of the team's 13.0 total blocks, against the Tigers.
Not usually the most vocal on the court, Babers finds a way to encourage her teammates without even saying a word.
She just lets her actions do the talking.
And her smile.
A lot of looks on the court can sometimes be of a little bit of stressed out or panicked, but she’s always got the smile that calms a lot of people. Each one of them has a little thing they can bring to the table that helps the team settle in and get back to their execution

“It doesn’t hurt when Babers turns around and smiles at everyone all the time,” Texas A&M head coach Laurie Corbelli said. “A lot of looks on the court can sometimes be of a little bit of stressed out or panicked, but she’s always got the smile that calms a lot of people. Each one of them has a little thing they can bring to the table that helps the team settle in and get back to their execution.”
The calm and productive middle blocker certainly did her part in not only producing nearly three solo blocks per set, but also staying determined in avenging the team’s loss against the Tigers back in October.
“The production that she can offer this team is phenomenal,” Corbelli said. “When she’s in the rotation that she’s in, she doesn’t go behind as Shelby Sullivan often does, as a middle, but you can still do that if you can bring the right side in on the other play. I’d like to do more of that because she’s unstoppable behind the setter.”
The rhythm Texas A&M has created seems to be unstoppable here in the final stretch of the season, and should it continue the Aggies should have no problem finding themselves competing in the first round of the NCAA tournament come December.
But before the Aggies can begin dreaming, they must finish strong in their last three games, focusing first on their upcoming match against the No. 9 Kentucky Wildcats on Wednesday in Lexington.
