COLLEGE STATION, TX – The Tennessee Lady Volunteers took to the court at Reed Arena with the hope of securing their second conference victory of the season against SEC opponent Texas A&M.

Unfortunately for the Lady Vols, they were seriously denied.

The Aggies (15-10; 7-7 SEC) swept the Volunteers (9-18; 1-12 SEC), 3-0, beating the Lady Vols in every statistical category.

“Honestly, I’ve probably said it before when you’re playing a team with a 1-11 record in your conference; it’s different than when you’re playing the team that’s 11-1,” Texas A&M Head Volleyball Coach Laurie Corbelli said. “You obviously are not as hyped up and all the hype from the match isn’t there, so you have to really rely on your discipline and your focus to make sure you are effective and your performance doesn’t suffer from lack of preparation. So that’s always my concern as a coach, because sometimes these are the ugliest matches for the team that is supposed to win quote on quote.”

It’s safe to say that Corbelli had nothing to be worried about as Texas A&M, led by senior setter Allie Sawatzky, finished the afternoon strong giving up only 10 points to Tennessee in the final set, 25-10.

We’re not worrying as much about what the opponent is doing, but we are trying to get ourselves ready as best as we can and then good things will come, and then good things come in the post season as well. - Senior setter Allie Sawatzky
Sawatzky led the team with her 17th double-double of the season, finishing the Friday afternoon with 12 kills, 20 assists, six digs, and one block.

Despite Texas A&M’s October struggles, there seems to be a glimmer of hope in reaching the NCAA tourney, as the Aggies have now won four straight matches, giving themselves an even conference record at 7-7.

“Right now all we are focusing on is the next game, the next game, the next game, and what we’re focusing on is our side of the court” Sawatzky said. “We’re not worrying as much about what the opponent is doing, but we are trying to get ourselves ready as best as we can and then good things will come, and then good things come in the post season as well.”

Fingers crossed, Texas A&M looks to find itself in the NCAA tournament discussion, taking their next step against Auburn this Sunday at Reed Arena.
