From around the 11:20 mark and the Reed comments
Reed is not the worst arena I have ever been to. It is not the best either but basketball is not a big deal at A&M when compared to football. Look at the picture below and at least you have some design elements like the lighter bands of color on the darker tan for the surrounding structure. The issue is how good the actual structure is and if your can retrofit the exterior to incorporate more defined visual appeal.
Kentucky is doing this right now in keeping the existing structure (designed and built in 70's era) while upgrading to a new facelift on the exterior of the structure. The original version was really ugly then they did a minor facelift about a decade ago that fixed this entrance to the building.
Currently they are going for a full facelift and this is one of the early designs
The point being that if Reed has good bones to work with the exterior can be upgraded to make it more in line with the future trends in arena designs.
I think the newest arena in the SEC is the one at Mizzou
However, I have been told Bud Walton is due for an upgrade in the not so distant future. They will follow the Joe Craft lead that has been followed by LSU in terms of dual practice facilities. SEC is in a constant arms race and you can bet the home office will push all the schools to improve their product with the new SEC media deal. Yes football drives the bus, but basketball will provide much of the programming in this new deal just because of the hours of "new" programming it provides.
