Recruiting notes from the weekend
Spoke to a handful of sources in the last day or so, and here's what I've been able to scratch together from the visitors that made their way to town last weekend…- I'm sure many of you saw my interview with Lebbeus Overton and Micaiah Overton. If you didn't, it's still stickied at the top of the forum. Anyway, a couple of sources continue to feel like, even though Oregon and Georgia remain strong contenders, the Aggies are the team to beat heading into April. The brothers told me they still plan to visit Oklahoma and Ohio State so this recruiting race is far from won. The family's relationship with Terry Price along with the conversations had by Jimbo Fisher and DJ Durkin have sat A&M up quite nicely as we inch closer to decision time. The current players have also done a nice job. By all accounts, it sounds like the entire Overton crew came away impressed with what Texas A&M and College Station had to offer. With no set date for an announcement, we'll continue to monitor this one. If something pops up in terms of a commitment timeline, I'd think that was good news for the Aggies. - Get used to hearing the names of RB Cedric Baxter Jr. and CB Sharif Denson out of the state of Florida for a while. Reports coming out of the weekend indicated that the Aggies had made a huge jump for both, and we will likely see both return to campus this summer. Baxter and Jimbo Fisher have a great relationship, and A&M's ever growing ties to the Sunshine State have placed them squarely in the conversation for Denson who is from Jacksonville. It absolutely wouldn't surprise me if we are talking about these two kids on our 2023 signing day show. Extremely positive reports coming in about the Aggies' chances with both. - I'm supposed to speak with Austin Westlake DE Colton Vasek a little later today. He's got strong family ties to Texas so I'll be interested to hear what he has to say about his time in College Station. All the indications I've been given is that the kid is open to going anywhere and isn't locked in on staying in Austin. It may end up happening, but I think he will go through the recruiting process to find what he believes is best for him. - Speaking of Austin Westlake, it was another productive visit for OL TJ Shanahan from what I was told. A source I spoke with last night said TJ's relationship with new OL coach Steve Addazio is second to none and that it would be hard to imagine any other program pursuing the kid to feel like they've connected with him more than Texas A&M has up to this point. - 5 star CB target Tony Mitchell tripped to Florida last weekend, but I'm told the Aggies still feel good about their standing in that one. He'll be in College Station again on April 9th. From what I know, he spoke with A&M staff members about those plans last night. - As Jason reported, the Aggies will get a visit from Notre Dame safety commit Peyton Bowen next weekend. I always defer to Howell on DFW kids, but it sounds like this A&M visit is highly anticipated on both sides based on what I heard last night. That will be one I'll be keeping an eye on as we get closer to the weekend. - Reminder: Odessa Permian OL Harris Sewell is still expected next weekend, as well. - I mentioned A&M's growing chances with Cedric Baxter earlier, but I did want to pass on that it sounds like Georgia, Alabama, and Texas have pushed to the front for El Campo RB Rueben Owens. The Aggies will need to get him back on campus in the next 3 weeks to get back in the race before the summer hits.

TexAgs National Average Rating

The TexAgs National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a TexAgs rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the TexAgs Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide TexAgs readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

TexAgs Rating

The TexAgs Recruiting team of Billy Liucci, David Sandhop, Jason Howell, Ryan Brauninger and a host of recruiting interns attends more than 75 games each fall and observes and evaluates every major Texas A&M target, as well as most of the top 150 prospects in the State of Texas. From this evaluation the team draws a rating for each prospect on a scale between 70 and 100.

99-100: Elite national prospect (Five-star)

Considered one of the best prospects in the nation and a likely difference-maker at the collegiate level. Displays all of the physical skills to be a future All-American with potential to be an early-round NFL draft pick.

90-98: Elite state prospect (Four-star)

Considered one of the best 30-40 prospects in the state and a top 250 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to be a major early contributor at the collegiate level with high professional potential.

80-89: Quality prospect (Three-star)

Considered one of the best 100 prospects in the state and a top 500 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to develop into a contributor over the course of his college career. Has the ability to become a professional prospect over time with development.

70-79: Solid prospect (Two-star)

Considered one of the top 250 prospects in the state. Has the physical skills to be a potential contributor at a D-1 program over the course of his collegiate career with significant development. Professional potential is low.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Texas A&M and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Texas A&M and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
