Jim Delaney is the second.

If you think the B1G is sitting around waiting, you're foolish.

Pitt, Maryland, Notre Dame, and possibly Rutgers/Missouri are their likely targets because of their AAU requirement for conference membership.

And Slive is waiting patiently. Why isn't the 14th team crystal clear? Because the ACC is still a strong conference that hasn't cannibalized itself.

Slive wants the UNC/Duke rivalry. I garundamntee it. The SEC would instantly become the strongest conference in football and basketball. He wants two more academic schools as well. He is waiting for the B1G to strike before he makes his move.

I'm calling it now. Remember this thread when we are back here in a year and Duke/UNC are in our conference.

No he's not.

He has a chance to absolutely LOCK IN A&M and the south-east Texas market and he's sitting with his thumb up his crack..

It's a mistake that is going to cause animosity between Aggie fans and SEC fans down the road. (getting worse with every day that passes.)

Wrong! The delay is with the SEC because they aren't ready to invite us yet.

You obviously haven't been following what is going on... there is just legal posturing on both sides. A&M to the SEC will happen.

The announcement of a 14th team is what is the only real question, and that won't be answered until Delaney strikes.

the delay is all the legal crap that needs to get sorted out and put behind everyone so there are no problems with this move.

Wasn't Bowen Loftin just given sole authority to approve a conference move just two days ago without having to go back to the BoR for every step?

It may seem like a delay in your eyes, but it surely isn't. Twitter has warped your mind.

Come on,

I think that the legal issues with TAMU and Big XII-2 need to be put to bed before they can join besides it will be like what the ACC did with BC and Miami, they lose 5 million dollars and they had to schedule some of the Big East on their OOC schedule as well.

Just the thing I would expect from someone that frequents the chicken ranch. Always jumping the gun and complaining that the other party isn't ready when you are.

There CAN'T be an invite to a team that has not announced they are leaving a current conference. There are lots to do on both sides. A&M has to announce they are leaving and wants to join another.....then the SEC can step in. Anything before this happened will open the floodgates for lawsuits - it will be difficult, anyway.

Also, the SEC wants at least one more team to go with the Ags. Delay is good. While A&M gets their end tied down the SEC can look around for other suitable members.

You have no clue what you're talking about. I don't mean that as an insult, but you have NO IDEA what is going on behind the scenes. All you know is what ESPN has pounded into your head.

No, the only delay is getting all the legal stuff squared away. We aren't in a delay, they aren't in a delay. we just need steps to happen in order.

Patience is a must.

Besides it's not like we are going to be playing SEC teams next week if we announce it today. It would be nice to get over there for 2012, but the wait will be worth it once it's finished and we're SECbound.

A&M to the SEC starts with....

"we are leaving the B12" coming out of Loftin's mouth

NOT

"here is your SEC invitation" coming out of Slive's

Folks posting on here do not get this simple concept! it is not a chicken or egg debate, and those who think it is are not reading what Loftin and Slive have said in their public statements.

Why do people keep saying this? Look at the CU to Pac 10 announcement:
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/news/story?id=5271438

"The Pac-10 announced Thursday that the University of Colorado has agreed to leave the Big 12 to join its conference."

Where in the process do you see CU leaving the Big 12 first?

Or was CU somehow exempt from the whole "you must leave your conference first and then you apply and then you are accepted" rule?

If Slive wants the UNC/Duke rivalry as bad as OP argues, then OP needs to better understand that UNC/NCSU are int he same system and will be in the same conference in perpetuity, PERIOD.

Since UNC/Duke is such a rivalry, then UNC/Duke/NCSU are a triplet never to be separated...count on that...and oh, yes, Wake Forest, too! That Quad right there IS the ACC...

All of the events of last summer are somewhat foggy to me. But I would say the differences are

1. CU was the first team to leave, while it was a certain falling of domino's they did not pull a string and potentially destory the conference as a direct result.
2. At the time Baylor was fighting to get CU's spot in the PAC, Colorado was in a hurry to solidify their place before Baylor could talk the group into kicking the Buff's out.
3. Our move is tied to legal matters where Colorado was not. Baylor has all but said they will pursue legal action (either in court or Texas congress) to try to stop us or penalize us.

CU didn't have a bunch of dingleberries hanging off their @ss like A&M does. (t.u., Dodds, Beebe, Baylor, Dan Branch, House Education committee, et al) We got some ectomies to take care of.
Urban Legend

Fair enough re: CU not facing the political issues that the Ags face. But my fear is the longer we wait, the more time the forces of darkness (tu, ESPN, rest of B12, politicians, NCAA) have time to marshall their resources to stop this.

Do we really think Baylor or whomever won't sue us ANYWAY?

Nobody sued the Big 10 or the Pac when NU and CU left, and if we are sued, I really don't think we'll lose. We just have to look at it as a cost of moving and LEAVE already.

When CU and NU left there was either no ESPN minimum number of teams clause to let the network chop tv money if the Big 12 dropped below 10 teams or there was the clause but their leaving did not drop the conference below the minimum number. Thus there were no "damages" CU or NU would be liable for. Now there is. Plus at the time it was thought by everyone (except Beebes) the Big 12 was about to implode anyway.

The delay is to to three things:
1. Line up a replacement for A&M in the Big 12-3 so the clause won't kick in.
2. Get legal ducks in a row listing grievances and valid reasons for leaving.
3. Negotiate the exit fee.

Soon as these things are done Loftin calls Slive asking to join the SEC, the SEC presidents meet, act surprised and vote to offer membership which A&M accepts.

East Carolina is in the same system. The North Carolina public university system is unique in the fact that ALL PUBLIC SCHOOLS in that state are in the same system.

Good to know. This strengthens the possibility.

And ****, if NC State wants to come, let em if Mizzou doesn't want to.

Realistic or not, I wish Duke and NC would join A&M in the SEC.

I think the only way it happens is if the Big East and Big 12 merge without ACC, then Big 1G grabs Pitt, Syracuse, Rutgers and Maryland, then SEC threatens to take a couple from the NC State, VT, FSU, Clemson group. At that point Duke and NC would realize they have to jump to the SEC. However, this is unlikely that all of these events happen like this.

true. but being in the sec will make more money for nc state from football, and makes them competitive in basketball again. their board must see the benefits of this.

and since unc stays in the acc, that keeps it intact and they can add east carolina or one of the other unc's. it's a multiple win situation.

UNC = state school = voters / politicians ==> 60,000+ football and 20,000+ basketball
NCST = state school = voters / politicians ==> 60,000+ football and 20,000+ basketball

Duke = private school = no voters / no politicians ==> 28,000+ football and 8,000+ basketball

Say what you will about Duke and UNC splitting, but if it gets to the voters and "t - shirt" fans, I am guessing UNC and NCst may be more tied than UNC and Duke. If football is driving realignment, Duke could be an early casualty.
bojangles
How long do you want to ignore this user?
the problem with the OP's most excellent theory is that UNC and Duke have no desire to join the SEC.
