Its funny everytime Cooper is mentioned that sips almost to a man insist that its much worse than thought and he's still on crutches, etc. Does anyone really know?

Westrbook was a HS AA, a college AA and a #5 NFL pick. Gregg was 27th best CB prospect in the nation. Not saying the guy isn't good, but Westbrook was a freak (ask Leeland).

98 sip, brush up on your reading comprehension. 83Aggie wasn't saying Gregg = WEstbrook. What he was saying is that he is like Westbrook in that he has good cover skills but is also big and physical. God knows he couldn't possibly be as good as the almighty Westbrook.

Thanks MEMAg. I know all of this talk is useless and we should succomb to the fact that we must be second rate. Fran's #10, #13, and #8 classes are all an illusion, and we couldn't possibly be stockpiling talent.

lj doesn't like DC because the super teams are actually put together by a person that used to be a college FB coach and recruiting coordinator. He obviously doesn't have the knowledge(or agenda) of rival, ketchup, etc.

And, it seems, that some Ag commits that the horns like to deride seem to be held in much higher esteem on the super teams, which doesn't sit well with them. On rivals, Malcolm Williams is listed as the #13 DB in the state. On DC, he is first team super team and considered to be one of the top three corners in the state. Let's see--Fran and DC vs. rivals. I think I'll go with Fran.

I guess that is what lj means by being "way off". Way off the sip agenda, I think he meant. BTW, Pugh is on the second team super team defense. Considering some of those "top" DB's are safeties, one runs a 4.6 40 and another is committed to Kansas, it really looks like we might just have landed two of the top 4-5 cover corners in the state.

But of course, that can't be. The sips won't have it.

Outrigger, nice try! Most Ags & Horns don't put much into DCTF super teams and such. It has nothing to do with aTm recruits being on his list higher than I and most Sips think...goodness, outrigger your attempt to cause friction when there is nothing there is very evident.

Watching the bayou bowl only reinforced what? He was the only kid on the texas squad that could cover anybody and was constantly cleaning up other peoples mess. Laid the wood a few times, and broke up 3 passes. I guess im not understaing what it reinforced. He was the best defensive player in the city of houston last year, and if you watched his last 3 playoff games you see why he can play corner. Didnt have a single ball thrown to his side of the field.
Oh Doctor!

ljhookem--you say Gregg's "hips aren't very fluid." Please tell me you are a scout, played secondary in college, or are a very experienced coach. Otherwise--what do you know about how to evaluate a HS kids hips? Do you not think he can improve his hip fluidity? Just wondering. Most people on here can't evaluate "fluid hips" after seeing a guy play one or two games.

Lj, apparantly you should have watched the game on TV because you missed a lot.
Gregg showed me a lot at corner. I really didn't know much about him before the game, but came away REALLY impressed.
He showed very good closing speed.
He showed very good coverage skills.
He showed a nose for the ball.
He showed me a willingness to hit and tackle in the open field.

The kids name was called over and over again by the Tv Announcers. ANd even when they weren't calling his name you could see him in on the tackle or in the play.

Gregg committed to A&M, so obviously tu didn't even offer - so he couldn't be that great. He'll probably start for us as a RS fish, but he'd never even make the 2-deep at tu.

We'll have a deep class at CB once we add Hewitt. This is a great pick up for us, Pugh looks like a real stud at CB.

With the offenses in our division, you simply have to sign a couple talented DBs (ones that can play safety and corner preferably) each year. Pugh is especially big due to the loss of Mayes

I'll assume you mean 'simply' as 'must' in your post and agree with you.

andrew, I think Pugh is like Westbrook not Gregg. My reasoning for Gregg not being like Westbrook is because I think he lacks some in coverage.

Gregg won't be terrible at CB, but I do think he'll struggle early on if he's slotted at that position his first 2 years. I just think he would be better suited for Safety because he can cover at the Safety position and can really be physical.

I'm not saying I know all but I do know football and I trust my (just like how Liucci trusts his own analysis) ability to judge talent. Nobody is ever perfect but I usually hit more than miss.

You must have watched a different game than everyone else. Gregg was the best defensive player on the field. He is a prototypical big corner, ready for D-1 right now. I can understand you wanting to talk smack to Ags, but you look outright silly with your assessment of Gregg.
PhatAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?
lj you are right that Gregg could play safety in the future because of his size and strength and good speed. But will someone please give lj the 2005 A&M recruiting video so he can see what Gregg did this year as the Def MVP in Houston strictly as a cover corner and not a safety. How in the world do you think he got the award? It ain't because he was getting burned..

I am also very happy with the Pugh commit, from what I hear he will be a fantastic player for the Ags.

ljhookem
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I came away from the game thinking the same as you guys....McKinner Dixon, Louisian LB, & Gregg were the best players on the field.

Covering HS WR's as opposed to D-1 WR's are totally different....hell, Rufus Harris shut down everything in HS and he couldn't cover very well at D-1. Gregg has more speed than Rufus and covers better, I just think he'll struggle some with D-1 WR's.

I just think Gregg is better suited for Safety...that's all!

erikr...right back at ya!!

Noone knows til he suits up in the Fall. He will get some Div1 coaching and see how his tools respond. But you know what, out of Gregg, Dixon, Branson, Peterson, Puhl and MWilliams, we'll find a couple good CBs to back up Gorrer and Newton(or Carpenter) in 2006. Yes, 1 or 2 may move to safety if they grow out of the position. Or even LB like Hodge has done. Time will tell.

No kidding. That was especially evident for me after seeing some of the douchebags that worked for Rivals.com that were out at the 7 on 7 tourney this weekend. Especially Ketch. That guy was about 5'10" 200, had an earring, and was walking around like some billy bada$$. In other words, he has probably never played a down of football in his life. I saw much more of the same thing from the Rivals.com people. I'm sorry, but I think I'll trust coaches ability to evaluate talent (especially since they're pros at this) more than some zit faced geek with braces.

Did Ketch lose some weight? 200lbs sounds pretty svelte for him.

I think Gregg could play CB or FS. IMO, he will play some nickel back early in his career and then move to the FS spot where he will back up Japhus until he graduates and then take over the starting job. He is the most physical CB we have at the moment so he will probably line up on some of the bigger slot WRs we play for now. Once we get better depth at CB, I say he moves positions though. He could be an awesome FS.

Apparently so. I thought no way in hell at first, but I could still see the fat cankles. I believe that he lost a lot of weight.
