My friend's son is an absolute beast. Jalen Preston is 6'2, 190 and just a freshman this year. Not sure where he'll play in college, but likely at safety, IF he plays football. Just as good at hoops (maybe better). Anyway, LSU offered him in football this week. Both parents were all-time greats at SHSU in basketball.

It's amazing how many athletes are being churned out at Manvel HS. He was brought up to the varsity football team as they entered the playoffs. He just made his first varsity basketball start two weeks ago and went for 21 points.

This video below doesn't show many (if any) varsity basketball highlights, which means it is mainly 8th grade and summer between 8th and 9th highlights. You can Google his name and there are highlights all over the 'net.

They are a very close-knit family and like A&M as well as other in-state schools. These kids are showing such athletic prowess younger and younger these days.

I have seen a LOT of hype videos over the years and I have never seen an 8th or 9th grader with that level of athletic ability. He looks like a college freshman. That tape is almost impossible to believe to be true.

Not just his hops, but his ability to move is just not on an 8th or 9th grade level.

knoxtom, LOL! i totally agree, it is unreal, but i personally know the family and Jalen. He plays for TJFord Elite and played in the 16U division as an imcoming 9th grader this past summer. There are some videos his dad has of him as an 8th grade QB for Nolan Ryan Jr. High that will make your head spin.

Dad played at Willowridge back in the heyday and is 6'6. Mom is 5'9 and was grabbing the rim on the women's side at SHSU.

If that kid's a freshman in high school, he's the best freshman I've ever seen.
That looks Lebron James-esque

simply ridiculous. unless the kid is head over heels in love with the gridiron I would be encouraging him to continue to develop on the basketball court. his skill set is off the chart and his ceiling is limitless.

Very amazing......
My son's select group has about 6 players on their freshman team that all look like grown men to me. Of the 12 kids, I don't think any are less than 5'11 and all the post are 6'4+. I look at my 11 year old and wonder if he can keep up.

That is an unreal athlete. I'd offer him based on athletic ability, even if he was a Soph or Junior.

My good friend from high school coaches Jalen Preston at Manvel HS. This kid is an absolute freak, worth the hype, and will be a star in the NCAA and either NBA or NFL. Apparently he's actually even better at basketball than football, however this early LSU offer might have him thinking football. It sounds ridiculous to state this, but he's been in coaching for a little while now, and he's confident that this is the best athlete he'll ever coach.

^^^^Agree. His future is in Basketball. Why risk getting injured in football that could end his career in sports?

Because NBA teams only have 12 players and NFL teams have 53. Basketball is played all over the world and every year there are only 50 or so new players that make an NBA roster. And he is "only" 6'2. He may keep growing, but at this point, playing in the NBA is far, far from certain.

^^Yeah, but have you seen his highlight video? He plays like Chris Paul and he's only 14 and growing. True, NBA has small numbers, but the numbers of talented football players across America outweigh the number of talented basketball players. He's in that small pool of rare talented basketball players. But I would love to have him either way at A&M.

He may be a freshman but is he actually 14-15 years old?

Holy ****! His lateral quickness and body control are off the charts. Would love to see what he looks like as a CB. That being said, he's an NBA player if I've ever seen one.
