Game Preview
Howdy my fellow Aggie Volleyball National Championship fans and welcome back to another game preview on back to back days. The Aggies are playing their second match in the Big 10 - SEC Challenge. This time against 21st ranked Indiana. The Aggies will looked to rebound after suffering their second sweep of the season, last night at the hands of 14th ranked Purdue. Hopefully today's match can be a bounce back opportunity for the Aggies.
The Aggies lost to Purdue in front of a hostile Boilermaker crowd. The Aggies led in all 3 sets and were even the first to 15 in set one and set two. However, in both sets the Aggies failed to close due to critical untimely errors and poor execution. The Aggies would lose their lead each set. Even the return of Kyndal Stowers was not enough to help the Aggies pick up a ranked win.
The Aggies struggled with Purdue's block and pin hitters. Next up is Indiana who has two strong middles, a solid setter, and an excellent pin. Indiana has only played two matches. They lost last weekend to Louisville where they got swept. They then bounced back last night where they beat Georgia in 4 led by Jaidyn Jager's 19 kills and setter Teodora Krikovic's 50 assists. Their middle Ella Boersma also had 12 kills on only 18 swings. Indiana will be looking to pick up a ranked win, just as their conference foe Purdue did.
The Aggies need to start picking up ranked wins with a record of 0-3 against ranked teams at the moment. RPI and hosting implications are heavily impacted by these nonconference matches, especially in a weak conference. The Aggies were playing well until the end of sets where Purdue played well and the Aggies were making mistakes. Offensively, Eliza Sharp and Taryn Morris played exceptionally. The connection between Musgrove and Stowers/Ring felt disconnected. As talented as they all are, if a set isn't great it'll be hard to get around a block, especially a talented one. Defensively our block has to improve quickly. Purdue was extremely efficient and often times got a swing against a solo block or had a wide open seam. Even on tips or easy shots out of system, we were hesitant and let many fall down in front of us. Our floor defense needs to get better as well, a better block helps that tremendously.
It's time to bounce back. No more excuses, it's time we play Aggie Volleyball and get back to winning consistently, playing dominant volleyball, and being ourselves. It starts today at 4pm. I'm ready to see us go out there, dig up some passes, take some huge swings, get our block going. I want to see energy, intensity, passion. I want to see Aggie Volleyball the way we all know we can play. Let's win this and then go big game hunting next week with Stanford and Wisconsin. I believe.
