Cal Poly's block coming out strong in this set
Was this the double touches? I was trying to figure out what was going on there.sleuthofbears said:
Unless I'm missing something, that was maybe the worst call I've ever seen in sports

Kirra Musgrove coming out party
Nice set for Musgrove.
Nicholson did not play in the 2nd set for those not watching live.

Any indication why?

I didn't see anything from Nicholson that would have prompted the change. It wasn't even halfway through the 1st set. I think she only had one rotation through the back row at that point. Maybe coach saw something from Musgrove that he went with it.

I really just don't think in an ideal world they want to play this 5-2. I think there are a lot of benefits to playing a 5-1 and Musgrove has a massive advantage because of her length and offensive ability, assuming she can set as well as Lily. I think the hitters also benefit from the consistency of having one setter in there IMO.
We will see if they keep rolling with it or if it was just something that Morrison saw in that specific matchup that he liked.

Don't forget the defensive aspect. We have a limited sample with Kirra playing back row, but I'll be watching to see if opposing offenses hit at her when she is in the back row. Her height works against her there...
