Tomorrow at 5:30, Aggie volleyball fans will get their newest look at the 2026 Texas A&M Aggie Volleyball team in an open scrimmage with the squad split into two teams.
After winning the national championship in 2025, the 2026 Aggies will look to regroup and discover their new identity with 8 new players, 4 transfers and 4 freshman. The 4 transfers are OH Natalie Ring (Marquette), Setter Lily Nicholson (FSU), MB Eliza Sharp (Boise State), MB Kaia Castle (Ohio State). The 4 freshman are Libero Gabi Rodriguez, Opp Brooke Lacewell, Libero Jenna Thedford, MB Lolufe Adedeji. That's a lot of new faces, but after losing 8 seniors, it was a must in order to reload and contend once again. The Aggies would need to replace 3 All Americans and many other starters and key pieces to our national championship team.
The Aggies do return 2 starting pieces in OH Kyndal Stowers who was also named NCAA Tournament MVP, as well as, defensive specialist Addi Applegate. The Aggies also return 6 others including setters Margot Manning and Kirra Musgrove, outside hitters Megan Fitch and Amare Hernadez, opposite Taryn Morris, and middle Djurdja Stanojevic.
8 new faces, 8 returners, Jamie Morrison preached this teams priority is to find its own identity. It's time for them to turn the page from 2025 and make a name for themselves. Show themselves and the rest of the volleyball word who this 2026 team is. There are many questions going into this season, such as who will step into Maddie Waak's shoes and set for this team? Who will replace Logan Lednicky at the right side of the net? Who will replace one of the most dynamic middle duos in the NCAA in Ifenna Cos-Okpalla and Morgan Perkins? How will so many new pieces come together? Can the chemistry be replicated? Who will step up and be our leaders? What will be our offensive style?
There will be some carry over in principles. Under Morrison we will always strive to be an aggressive serving team, up tempo, have versatile rotational players, take chances at the net, and most importantly under Jamie Morrison you'll have a team of ladies who believe they can beat anyone, any time, anywhere.
Although we won't have many question's answered in an intrasquad scrimmage, we'll get a glimpse of what's to come. We will be tested early with a tough non conference schedule that's ranked 3rd toughest in the nation. Our offensive connections, back row passing, setting, attacking, blocking, will all be challenged early. We know a lot of our offense will run through Kyndal Stowers, but we'll need to spread our offense out with defenses keying on her. We'll need to get our middles going strong offensively, we'll need production from the opposite position whether it's Morris or Lacewell. We'll rely on Ring who was a 3rd Team All American at Marquette last year. It's uncertain how the staff will split teams or if players will be switching teams after each set. We do have 4 OH's, 4 middles, and 2 opposites to split evenly. There is an odd number of setters and liberos.
While us fans may continue to celebrate our national championship, our team has turned the page and is focused on finding their own identity. Tomorrow will be the first chance to see this team on the court this season. Get out to Reed and show some support for these ladies and this staff.
