Amazing. That score is the average score of all of her passes. Given that the number of passes she is doing is very high, her contribution to the team's success is enormous.
Just a little update on Lexi Guinn, the Aggie Grad and National Champion finished her non conference play for Lipscomb where they sit at 7-3, this past weekend she had her best match where she had 13 kills, 8 digs, and 5 blocks
There is still a gap between Top3 and next 2 (Florida/Tennessee). Not a huge gap, but we get both at Reed later in the schedule. We also have Kentucky/Texas on the road.
After top5 there is a wider gap. I think Georgia/Auburn are probably top of the middle pack. Vandy is getting a lot of good vibes right now, taking care of business against lower competition and a nice win vs North Carolina - they are probably middle of conference. LSU has one of the most dynamic players in the nation but can't seem to get all the pieces together.
As stated above, Gabi Rodriguez, SEC Freshman of the week and I'm certain it's not gonna be the only time she wins this award
It's funny, she obviously played well but honestly I think this might have been her 3rd or 4th best week so far this season which is crazy to say. Can't believe we get 4.5 more years of her, she's already so good.
SO GOOD. I mean this girl is ELITE at what she does.
The future is BRIGHT for Texas A&M volleyball!
Yes, the future is bright!!!
Gabi, I believe, is the highest rated volleyball recruit A&M has ever signed. Depending on the rating service, she was, on average, around 10-15; but the top Libero.
As a freshman she is proving that her ranking was justified, if not underrated. She is one of the main reasons our team is so dang good now (not so much at the start of the season).
Beyond Gabi, we have top tier talent at setter and OH joining the team in "27 and '28 respectively.
Consider this, next year Sophee Peterson, the #1 ranked player in the country, joins the team. She could produce a "Gabi Effect" on next years team. She may not take over for Musgrove (I'm a big Kirra fan) but Sophee and Kirra competing will raise the level of play. Sophee, in August, led the US National U21 Team to Gold in the Pan-Am Cup. Isabel Incinelli, (2027 Texas A&M commitment) standing 6'5" was also on the team and played significant minutes and impressed.
The following year (2028) we will welcome Maya Ogbogu, OH who is ranked the #1 in her class. Maya will start from day 1 and will ease the graduation loss of Kyndal Stowers. For those of you who have not seen Maya play, she us uber athletic, has an arm that kills the ball and is true 6 rotation player. She will be a perfect perfect replacement to Kyndal. Maya won the USA Volleyball Club National Championship over the Summer and won MVP. Her team, TAV out of the Dallas area, beat the favorite A5 out of Atlanta with Kari Knotts (2029 recruit) considered by many to be a "generational player".
The link below is the first set of the match between TAV and A5
Maya is #23 TAV (black jersey) Sarah Floyd #12 TAV (tu's top OH in the class of 2028 - included just as a comparison) Kari Knotts #8 A5 Number 1 rated player in 2029 MC Crutcher #18 TAV She is class of 2029 and is a top 5 national player. She is good!!!
Watch Maya's kill at 1:00 and the defensive play at 2:00. This young lady was only 16 at the time. Those two plays are normal for her as she makes those type of plays throughout the match. She has two more years of growth & training before she gets on campus.
After the TAV/A5 Championship, Maya and Kari Knotts teamed up to represent the USA at the U17 World Championship in Chile in August. Their team did not loose a set over 9 games they played. Kari won MVP and Maya was named top U17 OH in the World. Maija Mortensen MB, a 2028 commitment to Texas A&M was also on the National Team and won best U17 MB.
All of this is to say I agree the future is bright with Gabi, Sophee, Maya Ogbogu, Isabel Incinelli & Maija Mortensen. Also, Braelyn Patton (2027 is very athletic 6'3 MB/OH and Amari Frazier (2028 6'3" MB) will bring a higher level of play than what we have seen in the past. All these ladies are GOOD!
Sorry for the long past but it may help some who may not be aware of how Jamie is stacking talent.
Agreed the future is bright. Also keep in mind our entire roster except Ring (who had a redshirt year so this is her 5th) is eligible to return for 2027, with another year of growth experience. I believe twelve of them have 2-3 more years.
I'm extremely interested to see the setter battle next year! Kirra has found her groove and is averaging almost 12assists per set over the last 7/8 matches! Considering the recent turnover at middle, that's very impressive. Her defense holds up well too on the back row. Shes an ALL SEC caliber setter and could put up those types of numbers in conference play

Going to be hard for a true freshman to take the job from Kirra if she keeps improving at the rate she is.
In that same vein, I gotta give major props to Nicholson for being a good teammate. She's not used to being out of the lineup in her entire career. She seems really engaged and supportive. She is a real one. These kind of girls are the difference between good teams and great teams.
Agreed! She is a great team mate who got kind of hosed when her coach retired right after standard portal window closed. This team would not be in this good a shape without her.
I enjoyed Morrison's press conference yesterday. He talked about the discussions with Morris last year and ultimately her decision not to redshirt so she could develop in game situations- trusting him and his faith that 5 in 5 was coming. The staff obviously has always had big plans for her and we are starting to see her take off.
I chuckle every time Kirra breaks the cadence and destroys the ball over the net. I hope she does that at every (reasonable) opportunity. It can only help our offense by tormenting the opposing defenders and distracting them from their main responsibilities
I assume this rates only the pass, they are not assigning a difficulty level to the serves a passer is facing? Sort of a strength of serve rating? I haven't seen something that suggests a team is really good at serving, is that measured? Aces alone may mean you're facing a team that can't pass, not that you serve well.
I think some day we will be able to have stats for serve quality, independent of what the receiving team does with it. You just need to be able to measure the ball's trajectory and spin, and then a quality (difficulty) formula could be computed from those. (I think what we have now only records the ball's speed.) However, such a formula wouldn't account for the serve's achievement of its intention, in terms of targeting specific player or unexpected position on the court.
I wonder if they could factor in how far the passer had to move, like how far soccer players have run, though just on that initial play. Probably such a small distance it wouldn't be useful.
