Lednicky vs. Cos-Okpalla matchup began title-winning epilogue

Just a couple of weeks ago, Texas A&M volleyball was showered in falling confetti as nine seniors helped the program win its first-ever national championship. Now, a handful of Aggie legends are already beginning their next chapters as professionals in LOVB and MLV.

HOUSTON — Confetti rained down upon the Maroon & White. Thousands of screaming fans sent vibrating sound waves upon the gleaming championship trophy.

Time stood still.

Eighteen days later, the epilogue chapter began. Two legendary heroes, once partners in crime, stood on opposite sides of the net.

On one side stood Logan Lednicky.

On the other, Ifenna Cos-Okpalla.

Both received thunderous applause upon stepping into the Berry Center on Thursday, Jan. 8, as it marked their professional debuts for League One Volleyball (LOVB) — playing for Houston and Salt Lake, respectively.

Although their jerseys were different, their collective history remained the same. It followed them into a professional environment and into the dawn of a new era.

“Getting to see former teammates across the net is the coolest part about what we do, especially when Ifenna cares a lot about what she does and the people around her.”

“Honestly, I was excited when I found out,” Lednicky said. “Getting to see former teammates across the net is the coolest part about what we do, especially when Ifenna cares a lot about what she does and the people around her.”

“I agree,” Cos-Okpalla added. “It was fun to see that I was getting to face one of my greatest teammates of the past.”

In the end, Salt Lake swept the match, but the result was almost secondary to seeing two Aggie greats once more.

Lednicky stepped onto the court near the end of the opening set. No nerves were shown as she immediately rose high and earned the first point of her pro career with an automatic clean block.

She finished the match with two kills, one block and one dig.

Cos-Okpalla watched from Salt Lake’s side, soaking in the opportunity to view her friend bloom into what she had trained to become these last few years. Although she didn’t get to see any court action, her colossal presence was felt throughout the arena as rows of fans anxiously waited to greet her and receive her autograph.

Looking back, it’s almost astonishing to reflect on the hard work and dedication the two put into A&M’s program to craft the athletic pillar that stands taller today because of them.

“I think back on the whole journey,” Lednicky said. “Us being two four-year athletes at A&M is really rare these days, so getting to see the program come full circle with her is just really special.”

The two Aggie superstars have had an incredibly diligent voyage to the pro leagues. When asked what they would tell their childhood selves, they both shared different messages tailored to their own perceptions of the game.

“I never imagined playing volleyball beyond college, so getting to live it out here in Houston amongst my family and friends in the stands is really amazing,” Lednicky said. “I would tell her that this is real and it’s happening.”

For Cos-Okpalla, the message was disciplined.

“This is what hard work does,” Cos-Okpalla said. “Having fun while having a hard work ethic will take you so far.”

They are not alone in this next chapter, as other members of A&M’s 2025 national title-winning squad have turned pro.

Maddie Waak and Morgan Perkins have begun their own journeys as well, joining Major League Volleyball (MLV) with the Atlanta Vibe and the San Diego Mojo, respectively.

Debuting the same night, Waak continued the efficiency she's known, recording 47 assists, two kills and an ace.

With nine seniors departing Aggieland for their next chapters of life — both in volleyball and outside of the game — head coach Jamie Morrison left them with one final message.

“Do great things on and off the court,” Morrison said. “Enjoy every minute of what you’re doing because, at some point, it comes to an end. Take the lessons that you learned at Texas A&M and show that to the world.”

The monumental championship season is over. Soon, the banners will hang forever.

But the story isn’t finished.

It lives on across the nets and across the cities, carrying forward what these special Aggies built and accomplished together.

And perhaps across the nation, children watched these seniors from their living rooms, struck with inspiration and motivation to achieve the impossible, just as A&M’s nine seniors had once dreamed and achieved.

The story continues on different courts, yet their legacy and influence are forever instilled in the next wave of rising Aggies and future athletes to come.

As they move past the epilogue, their impact on A&M and the sport of volleyball will remain immortal through time.
