What are the chances of it ever moving beyond club level and becoming a varsity sport in the SEC and at TAMU?

Legit question. I'm not an expert on this.

Unless the Title IX rules change, probably 0%. You need to cover a 100+ scholarship football team with equal number of women's sports. No reason to add a non-revenue men's sport to require more non-revenue women's sports.

Jamie has talked about his goal of turning Volleyball into a revenue sport and I think it could happen, but I don't see us adding a men's side unless we think it could at least breakeven. Maybe if the sport gets extremely popular it could happen.

Very slim. Same with men's soccer. Because of title IX, we have to spend equal share on men's and women's sports. It's part of why we have so many women's sports, like equestrian and whatnot. So we have to pick and choose what men's sports we have and it either means taking money away from one of the big 3, or if you're going net new funding, whatever funding you want to give it, you have to 2x the total AD budget increase to give more to the women also.

At least that's how I've always understood it.

After I became enchanted by our volleyball team this year I started wondering what a men's game would look like. I did a YouTube search and found a replay of the men's olympic team vs Japan from a few years ago. I know that a men's college game wouldn't be like that, but I found it hard to follow. The ball is hit so hard and most of the volleys are pretty short. I didn't enjoy it as much.

Their serves were impressive. It looked like they would toss the ball about 20 feet high and hit it on a full run. But I think the women's game is more fun to watch.

Men's game isn't as fun to watch. Even if you had a men's team, you'd need a conference with nearby competition to keep costs in check. Chatgpt says there are only about 30 D1 programs and only 10 make the postseason. None of the programs are close.

Honestly, they need to change the game of volleyball for men. I don't know how. It is boring unless you just like raw power. Everyone serves hard. Every set is perfect. I'm slightly exaggerating but it's just not enjoyable.

Rather see a Women's Beach Volleyball team before a Men's team

I agree with this. The men's side is fun to watch for about 5 minutes. It's just power power power. Just not as enjoyable.

Good ideas, is the ball size same for men and women? In basketball I know women use a smaller ball.

different ball. I think mens use a "hitters" ball.

If you'd played men's volleyball at a high level, or lived overseas and grew up with it, you'd understand how awesome it is.

Similar to men's tennis which is all power and serves.

However, because the general public has no idea how this works, they gravitate to the woman's game - same as tennis for many.

I could see that. Playing is very different from watching though.

Kind of like pickleball, I actually prefer watching women's doubles. Singles though, men for sure.

IMO let the women have their unique sport. They need/deserve their moment in the sun (mission accomplished!!!) and identity without any comparison to men. This is going to be a lot of fun going forward. So lucky to have Coach Morrison leading the way.

(That also means keeping the "men" off the women's teams too, which shouldn't be a problem in the South anyway, thankfully)
I don't think you know me.

I don't doubt it's awesome. Mozart is awesome. But that doesn't mean I enjoy listening to it.

All the above makes sense, particularly the financial limitations. But also, where would you find players. Does Texas have boys volleyball?

Having to recruit all the players from out of state isn't much incentive.

Not hard to find them if you know where to look.

yes there are boys volleyball. At least here in Austin, some clubs have had boys team for a while but not many and are usually age combined.

Some high schools have also started recently.
