I keep marveling at the fact that after the epic 39-37 set loss to Nebraska we reeled off 7 straight wins, against 3 separate #1 seeded teams! By the 2nd and 3rd sets against Kentucky it was total domination.

I mean seriously, as good as we were playing, who even as late as November foresaw that this team

UNQUESTIONABLY would end up as the best team in America- and I don't mean national champs-

I mean the most dominant team in volleball!!!! WITHOUT QUESTION.

Unless your one of them Nebraska fans.

Simply put, an amazing run! One for the ages. The fact that A&M could come in and beat perennials like Neb & Pitt and to a lesser extent UK who in their own right beat Wisconsin, it has opened up the collegiate volleyball world to no telling how many "why not us" programs in the country. It has to be really good for interest in the sport.

GRIT

The two teams we swept clearly noticed our Nebraska win. They were mentally beat prior, especially Kentucky.

I thought we were easily a final four team early in the season. I was just hoping the committee did not place us in Nebraska. I did think with our balance and strength in the middle we were the one team that could beat Nebraska,

But I thought it would help to be at a neutral location. I was wrong on that one. We could even do it at their place.

The first two sets of our match against Nebraska was some of the best volleyball. I had seen us play all year.

I would argue were not a FF team after the regular season because of a couple things.

Defense - we didn't really need defense to do well in-conference, but we were average compared to even some SEC teams. We needed the 2024 end-of-season defense we saw vs Wisconsin. and BOY DID THEY DO THAT in the tournament! I was so happy to see it manifest the way it did. It was beautiful!

Hellmuth - really hit or miss. Versus some teams, she dominated but towards end of the season, she was clearly struggling. A lot of it was mental. One rotation we really struggled was Hellmuth/Perkins/Waak front row. But the Hellmuth from last year also showed up! She is so good when in a good mental state. Confident in her swings and her tips earned points as well.

Service - our serves are meant to get the opponent out of system quickly which then plays to our strength in blocking. We were hit or miss all season. But WOW, in the tournament, we put heavy heavy pressure every game.
