Chances of getting omicron after recently having it

What are the chances of getting omicron if you just got over it? Reinfection possible or likely ?

How long ago did you have COVID? It's possible after a Delta infection. I know a few people, nurses and teachers, who were sick in the Fall and again after Christmas.

My doctor also said they are seeing a rise of people who have Omicron COVID get their butts handed to them a few weeks later with other viruses because their immune systems have crashed after COVID. The stomach flu is a big one in our area right now, so is Roseola in the kids. Then when you get tested, you can still test positive so it looks like you're sick with COVID twice in a month. It's not COVID the second time, but the tests think it is.

Conventional wisdom says for covid in general immunity lasts at least 90 days.

I don't know why omicron would be different.

You can request a blood antibody test.

Goodness no.

CDC initially refused to acknowledge natural immunity, despite Fauci himself stating that if covid is like any other, it will confer immunity.

Then they said 30 days.

Then 60 days.

CDC now recognizes that natural immunity is a thing. Germany allows for natural immunity, up to 90 days post infection.


IMO an antibody blood draw is a good tool to use. You get an objective lab report of your own personal health status.

It is extremely unlikely that you can get re-infected with the same strain in ~90 days. The other side of that is we honestly cannot tell because you can have viral fragments that flip a PCR positive for 90 days. So you could have had COVID a month ago, catch some other random virus and get tested and think you have COVID now when you actually had it in the last 90 days.

I have seen lots of kids who had delta in the summer wave and have omicron now. They do very well though aside from missing 10 days of school due to the school policy.

Any chance they back the over sensitively of the pcr test down? I have read that it is way way too sensitive?

Thankfully our kids school policy follows the 90 day positive rule. If you're sick, stay home and no doctors note needed if you've tested positive within the last 90 days. Also no quarantine needed because of said positive test. Go back to school when well. We had this happen with my son who got a stomach bug about a month after Covid.

And we live in a purple state, fwiw
