Howdy y'all,
Just curious about protocol and isolation.
Most of what I've read recently said that once you get Covid to isolate either 5 days from onset of symptoms, or positive test, whichever it later. And then after 5 days to wear a mask.
Being I am at risk, my mom is at high risk and my wife currently is also sick with Covid and I'm trying to protect the kiddos, I took a second antigen test, and tested strongly positive again today. No fever for 4 days and although symptoms are all better, still under weather…abdomen is bloated and I've pulled a number of muscles in ribs and back coughing.

So question is do I isolate another 5 days ? CDC is kinda unclear about it.

Those CDC recommendations caused someone I know to spread it to a bunch of people because masks don't really work to stop a contagious person from spreading it.

If your goal is to keep from giving it to people then add a few more days to your quarantine time.

If you isolate 10 days from symptom onset, you will not spread it to anyone.

If you are symptom free after 5 days, then your risk of spreading it is very low.

If you were vaccinated, and you want to take the most precaution to not infect anyone, but still not wait the full 10 days, I think 7-8 days from symptom onset is reasonable.

Average time to clear the virus from the body in a vaccinated individual is about 5.5 days, in an unvaccinated individual it's over 7.5 days. No one has been able to culture live virus from an immunocompetent person after 10 days (hence the 10 days being the original standard for isolation).

Don't keep testing. You can test positive for months.

I have a newsflash for everyone. Omicron spreads like wildfire and it's a basic cold. Folks have naturally recovered and been double vaccinated with boosters and STILL got omicron making it their 2nd or 3rd time getting some variant of Covid while masking as much as possible.

Treat it like any other sickness at this point. Stay at home until you feel better. Don't sneeze and cough all over people. Live your normal life otherwise.
