Tested positive last Wednesday. Fever has been gone for two days as of this morning. No symptoms other than fatigue.

I believe new CDC guideline is symptom free for 5 days

3 more days. But seeing as how it is Tuesday it might be prudent to just wait until next Monday.

I would have gone back Monday in this case.

CDC actually says "isolate for 5 days and if they are asymptomatic or their symptoms are resolving (without fever for 24 hours), followed by 5 days of wearing a mask when around others."

So after 5 days you're free as long as your symptoms are getting better and you're fever free for 24 hours.

Or you could just do like we have done for decades, if you don't feel well, stay home. If you feel well, go about your life.

5 days from positive test and/or when symptoms abate, with a mask for an additional 5 days.

People with COVID-19 should isolate for 5 days and if they are asymptomatic or their symptoms are resolving (without fever for 24 hours), follow that by 5 days of wearing a mask when around others to minimize the risk of infecting people they encounter

Rhode Island decided that Covid positive medical staff can work while positive if that helps understand the BS guidelines.

You can test positive for COVID for up to 90 days after infection with a PCR. That does not mean infectious. We are not supposed to retest symptomatic patients who have tested positive in the last 90 days due to a high probability of a false positive from dead viral particles.

True but this doesn't seem to be that. It seems like they can go to work during what would be the quarantine period:

A memo was sent to employees of state-run Eleanor Slater Hospital on Friday explaining that "those who are exposed or have a positive Covid test but are asymptomatic" can continue reporting to work "in crisis situations for staffing" if they wear N95 masks.

Obviously it ultimately depends on your workplace rules.

My daughter is an elementary school assistant principal and vaccinated. She became fully symptomatic Monday December 27.

She did an at home rapid test Tuesday December 28 and scheduled a PCR test for work requirements Thursday December 30 which were both positive. She was also back to no symptoms and feelin 100% "normal" (after all she is around elementary kids all day, so what is normal) on Thursday.

She has felt great, been active and carried on with life as normal since last Thursday. She was not allowed by her district to return to work yesterday and can not return until this Thursday, 10 days from the start of her symptoms which is also 7 days since she first felt what we previously called well. She also isn't allowed to work via video while out.

Meanwhile her principal is also out because while uninfected she has been exposed to four family members, their cafeteria manager is also out due to COVID, and other staff is out. So much for educating the kids.

My daughter is a dedicated hard worker and would rather be at work helping her teachers and students. It is enough that she said she wished she had not told them she had been sick so she could be at work helping when it is needed.

This is how stupid this has become.

This is the answer right here. Don't tell.

She was raised to be a rule follower which I appreciate. But even her parent knows there are times when rules are stupid so you just have to be smart and choose the best course of action. She's still young but she's smart, she'll get there.

The problem is their employment contracts in Texas require them to report any testing, at least for my wife.

Which is why we have a strict no test policy in our house.

If we are sick, we hang out at home, but we turn down testing if we go into the doctor. It's not worth being forced to burn 10 vacation days regardless of symptoms.

This is where a home test is the answer. No one knows she did it.

What they are doing is wrong and encourages not testing and going to work sick.

Wrong
So, post the correct answer then. It's one thing to not agree and post "wrong", but here there is an answer so instead of posting the word "wrong" twice, correct the misinformation, if there indeed is any....

In the end, all of this brings to light that while the CDC may have the best of intentions with having quarantining suggestions, the reality of people's actual life and careers dictate that it isn't realistic at this point to continue such strict guidelines and instead there is a point in time where we may just need to go back to "once you feel well, go back into life". The government isn't bailing us out anymore for missed work. People need to be able to save their actual vacation time. And omicron is truly less dangerous than any prior variant to a level where hospitals are safe and this really is like a minor to mid level cold. If there is a time to feel justified in ignoring the CDC quarantine suggestions, this may be that time...

My double vaxxed cousin followed this guideline and went to her family Christmas party and wore a mask the whole time and got half of the people there sick with Covid.

If you don't want to get people sick then 5 days with symptoms resolving with a mask doesn't work.

I theorize that given how infectious omicron is, masks really won't work in most cases.

But could there be a chance that someone else at the party was asymptomatic and spread it. If it really had been 5 or more days asympt or symptom free, I'd think she really wouldn't be shedding enough viral load to infect others. But who knows. Again, probably should have just gone maskless and enjoyed the party. She did all she could do. Virus is just gonna virus.
