What's the major difference between CFB and NFL Covid protocols?

I've noticed even though the NFL is also getting hit by Covid, they aren't cancelling games like college has.

Does CFB have stricter Covid rules or am I missing something here?

Before anyone asks, no this has nothing to do with A&M or the Gator bowl, just wondering due to the numerous bowl cancellations in general.

CFB has stricter rules. CFB is also a lot more teams and no centralized authority managing the protocols for the entire system.

As of 2 weeks ago, the NFL stopped testing vaccinated players with no symptoms. CFB is still testing vaccinated close contacts, some of which test positive because this vaccine doesnt stop spread

Yep.

For once the NFL is using common sense.

Sucks for football fans like me that no longer watch the NFL and are having college games taken away due to stupidity.

CFB, while a huge moneymaking empire, is still somewhat controlled by liberal school administrations that demand hypertesting. The NFL, on the other hand, is an even bigger moneymaking empire controlled only by people who want to keep making even more money. Hypertesting causing unnecessary cancellations is terrible for the bottom line; therefore, when Omicron hit, they decided to stop doing it.

This should be flagged or posted in the Covid forum, if we're being consistent.

This seems like a perfectly fine place to discuss why we don't get to play a bowl game or watch some of these other bowl games, all while the NFL plows forward. Perfectly fair question directly related to Aggie football

CFB then needs to adjust and adapt with its protocols because if NFL teams can get through the games with 53 players on active rosters, CFB surely can with 85 scholarship players on active rosters

No question. I didn't mention it mostly because it should go without saying

Unless things changed, it seemed like most of the conferences were not testing vaccinated student athletes weekly unless they were showing symptoms.

IIRC, A&M ended up doing broad testing just to validate if there were wide spread cases.

To be fair, 53 NFL players on one team is like maybe 8 scholarship players on a college team, at best. In most cases, it's like 1.

While I agree that CFB needs to change, comparing the athletes between CFB and the NFL is a joke.

And that's the hypocrisy.
Colleges, you must get the team vaccinated or you'll have to forfeit games.

Colleges, although your vaccinated, we'll still test you and/or use contact tracing and you'll have to forfeit your games anyway.

They have actually been doing a good job all along. They were double and triple testing players in 2020 when a player got a first test positive. The original PCR tests were horrifically inaccurate at first with many false positives.

Their more in depth testing kept players and teams alive and playing…they had money riding in it. The politicians don't. They just have the desire to control.

Meaningless bowl games don't hold a candle to NFL games during playoff crunch time. It would take a monumental effort to derail the NFL season. And it's also interesting that we aren't hearing anything about COVID with the playoffs or the NY6 bowls. I think I saw that JT Daniels and Pickens were dealing with COVID issues for UGA, but there's no talk about UGA cancelling their game.

There is pressure (political) applied to both NFL and colleges. Differences in college has to do with administrative bodies. In the NFL, there is one centralized administration. For CFB, teams answer to the school, who may have to answer to the state, and then they answer to a conference. Not all states, not all conferences, not all schools have the same rules.

If all CFB teams followed the same guidelines, it would be easier. But they can't even all agree on which guidelines to follow.

Keep in mind, colleges are very afraid of being sued. There is a lot of CYA policy out there that makes each decision regarding even testing and vaccination decisions for an admin difficult.
