Vaccine effectiveness is measured in relative risk reduction not absolute risk reduction. Its not specific to COVID.

I agree the fear porn and messaging from the CDC and MSM is terrible overall.

I haven't looked at other vaccine classes, but what would be the relative risk reduction for something like the measles vaccine? Infinity, maybe, since it's absolute risk reduction is basically 100%.

My main point was to demonstrate that the story of statistics can be skewed based on the message that you want to convey. The CDC clearly wants people to live in fear. Why?

The CDC could calm society's fears and anxiety by concentrating on the incredibly small likelihoods of hospitalization or death in the event that someone is infected with COVID. It doesn't make a lot of sense which leads to conspiracy theories and vaccine hesitancy even for those who truly need it. And the fear porn also leads to unnecessary vaccinations of negligible-risk populations, exposing people - usually young & health - to unnecessary risks.

My second cousin was double vaxxed and died of covid. Tell his wife how "effective" the vaccine was. Dumba**.

Lots of variables for sure. Wonder what his overall health was?
Just attended a former marines funeral two weeks ago. Had Covid a year ago and never had vax. His wife had it as well and was not vaxed. She took the vaccine 3 months ago...he did not. He got it a second time ( She did not) and died from it. He was a hoss of a guy and never smoked or had much health issues other than a concussion from a car wreck five years ago. and appendicitis 15 years ago....typical gung ho GIrine.
Funny how it gets some and not others.
