how do you make sure a pandemic with a natural origin never happens again?

He actually says "the end is in clear view".

I've been for ending every restriction for a long time, just clarifying.

are you sure this virus was of a natural origin? if not, then the best way to prevent a pandemic is hold the country of pandemical origin extremely accountable. but since that won't happen, alas we are stuck fighting new ones more frequently.

In either case, never again is impossible.

For natural, there will eventually someday be something new that we don't yet have technology to beat.

For lab-created, there are always accidents or bad actors regardless of precautions and/or punishments.

Not saying we should sit on our hands in either case… because we can achieve "rarely" - but "never" is impossible.

And fire the lying American that funded the project.

One could make the case that "we" have punished "ourselves" significantly for this research development.

This one was man made, but with nature you never know but worrying about that is ridiculous.

Tell that to governments at all levels. They'll never give up their power despite what data says about the virus.

I think his subtext has more to do with our approach to combating COVID rather than anything to do with China. I was actually on a conference call one month ago where he gave a COVID update and he was saying then our approach needed to be assessed for learnings about what worked and what didn't. He also said we were at herd immunity or really close to it and that the August surge would be the last major surge we would see while predicting we would still see minor surges along the way.

He's been relatively objective on the whole matter even while being a board member of Pfizer.

No, it hasn't. I wish you were right. But, I'm forced to mask. I'm forced to show a vaccine card. My kids are forced to mask at school.

It should be over, but it's not due to government overreach.

None of that applies to where I live thankfully. Thanks to our county judge and ISD covid has been over for a good long while.

Several people I know have died of Covid within the last month. My next door neighbor is struggling with a severe case right now. In the small rural county in PA where I live, about 40 people/day are testing positive, 3+ people/day are being hospitalized, and 1+ person/week are dying of Covid.

So Covid is not "over" quite yet.

Bah that's terrible. We seem to have hit a plateau in this country:
