My little brother is 6' 330, and every bit of soft weight. 33 years old. Minor symptoms for first 6 days of symptoms. Thought he was out of it. Then on day 7 developed dry mouth to the point of not being able to swallow. Is drinking a massive about of water (like leak drinking it, but does not seem hydration related. Tested negative on day 10 when he went to the clinic. They prescribed Pilocarpine and theorized he may have Shorgen's syndrome, which was never before on his radar.

Really kicking him in the pants. He hasn't slept since Tuesday. Blood oxygen is at 91/92 and drops to 88-90 when he is only slightly active (standing up).

Have y'all ever heard of this dry mouth thing? Is it a common symptom? Is there any effective treatments?

Did he ever actually test positive?

Yes, with an at home, and then confirmed at a clinic. He got the vitamin cocktail. No ivermectin scrip, and he didn't get monoclonal antibodies until yesterday, so effectively pointless in my opinion. Not vaccinated. Really just underestimated it because of his age, and the fact that he has never had any health issues.

If he's sitting in the low 90s without moving, he needs to be in the hospital. That's what I was doing when I got admitted and I almost went straight onto a ventilator. I would get him to the ER

6' 330 is a major health issue especially with Covid. With borderline sats like that he needs to be watched in hospital.

I had dry mouth for about a day, but I think it was from the meds I was taking to address the sinus pressure. When I changed it up (spread out the meds) it became less of a problem.

Hope that helps.

6' 330? He is THE candidate to get leveled by COVID. Hope it's not too late for him.

I developed severe dry mouth with Covid to the point it was very difficult to eat/swallow. Had to stick with soup, jello, etc for a while.

Oxygen levels between 94 and 97 most of the day so it looks like he is out of the woods on that front.

However, sleep deprivation is taking hold. He was prescribed some anxiety meds to hopefully stop his mind from spinning. I don't really know what to do with this part of it. He is going through some pretty substantial sleep deprivation desperation. Suicidal thoughts specifically. Have never seen him have any issues like this, and the guy literally broke down in front of me talking about taking his life and how ultimately he was too much of a coward to do it. He's struggling completing rational thoughts. I'm to the point where I'm going to figure out how to drug the guy and knock him out so that his body can start healing from sleep deprivation.

Does anyone live with him?

I'm so sorry he's going through this. I said a prayer for comfort and sleep. I hope both come soon.

Will he go to the ER? This sounds terrible.

Definitely keep a close eye on oxygen and if he starts coughing a lot, get him to the ER. Remember with me I thought I was out of the woods with almost no symptoms then got the pneumonia and went downhill very quickly.

I know exactly what he's going through with the lack of sleep. My 7 days in the hospital I probably slept maybe 10-12 total hours. I was kidding my mind at the end of that week. If he has a PCP, see if they will prescribe him Trazodone. It is an antidepressant that also works as a sleep aid. It worked for me for a couple of nights until I got a rash - turns out I'm allergic. I did have crazy dreams almost to the point of hallucinations, but I was able to sleep on it in between waking up asking my wife crazy questions.

If he can't get that, Tylenol PM kinda worked for me and at least got me a couple of hours. The only thing that REALLY worked for me was Ambien, which they gave me in the hospital. I slept 6 straight hours every time I took one. It was glorious after 2 weeks of almost no sleep.

Is he anxious? Or what is the issue? My problem was I was on steroids and couldn't get my mind to turn off, plus very severe anxiety.

Hope this helps. If he doesn't have a PCP willing to give him something, I would be calling anyone and everyone you can in the morning and telling any doctor who will listen what is going on. My doctor was willing to prescribe Trazodone without seeing me. If you are in NW Houston I would definitely recommend Dr. Hina Tahir with Methodist.

Yes, he has a roommate, who I have made aware of the issue.

If he can't sleep tonight we may try something like this. Apparently the dr he saw today suggested he check himself in to a hospital or mental institution. It was not effective.

Certainly helpful information. It sounds like you went through a very similar situation as to what he is dealing with in terms of his grip on reality.

He was prescribed 200mg of Seroquel today. Will try to figure out how to get him something more if it's ineffective tonight.

That's good. At least it's a start to try something. Both while I was in the hospital and the first few days out, about 8pm I would go into a spiral a little bit, and get super anxious and cry most nights because I knew that bedtime was showing and knew I wasn't going to be able to sleep. It was pretty terrifying because I knew I was VERY fragile mentally. I really hope the drug he gets tonight helps. If not, I'd be on the phone first thing in the morning trying to figure out something else. It is one of the most miserable things I've gone through.

Seroquel will knock him out .. thats a pretty high dose, my Dr has given me 25mg for sleeping and it works great... will knock you out for 8-10 plus hours.. not something you want to take long term but that stuff works well for sleeping..my buddy was given seroquel 25mg for sleeping and it worked extremely well for him and his wife.. so I asked my Dr for some.. best sleeping med I've ever taken.. nothing even comes close to that stuff

Also, I usually take it an hour or so before I want to sleep, it takes a while to start working but once it does, its like pulling the shades down over your eyes, your down for the count and even if you wake up to go to the bathroom or something you go right back to sleep immediately.. best sleeping pill there is

Trazodone is some weird stuff. I took it for a bit when I couldn't sleep and felt like mental mush for the better part of the next day, but given my lack of sleep til then it was worth the trade off. My GF at the time took it and she stopped after like 2 days. Made her feel like garbage.

Did they prescribe him oral steroids? Like prednisone?

They gave me that **** and a z-pack as part of the early protocol. I had to quit taking them after three days as I was up 24-7.

He slept about 10 hours off and on through about 1pm today. Progress. Woke up to 88-89 oxygen with slime copares mouth, but it moved to 96+ after sitting up and moving around. Still not all there mentally but there is progress. Sleeping meds seem to be doing the trick. Thanks for the all the help and comments. It is helping him to know others have had similar experiences and this isn't his life from here on out.

That's awesome to hear. Glad he was able to get some rest. I can't even begin to tell you how great that first night of sleeping feels safer getting no sleep for a week. So glad he's making progress. I definitely have lower O2 when I wake up so that isn't too much of a worry. He's definitely still not out of the woods, but having a good support system behind him is definitely step one. Keep it up!

Keep an eye on his O2 through the days and just remember, the ER sucks, but it sucks a lot more if you wait too long to go. I was scared out of my mind when I got admitted the first time, but I honestly believe if my doctor's had not acted quickly when I came in, I wouldn't have made it.

BCG, any update on your bro?

Also, I had a very mild case of the vid back in February. Was already taking ivermectin once a month as a preventative. Anyways.....

About 6 months after recovering, I started having crazy heart palpitations and major anxiety. Couldn't sleep, couldn't eat, lost 30 lbs. Took several weeks to fully get over......

About a month after me, the wifey, started having the same issues. Come to find out, others in our inner circle, who have all had covid, also battled some form of anxiety well after (months) recovery.

This virus is crazy. Anyone else have these problems?

We think he is out of it. Seems normal again. Elevated heart rate is biggest issue going forward. Still has dry mouth, but it has improved dramatically.

And yes, the virus is a crazy thing. Very unfortunate it has been politicized the way it has. Just glad he made it out of it.
