It's not lies, but its curated to tell a story. Comparing percent change of two data sets is meaningless if the two numbers weren't similar to begin with. You could easily take Florida numbers and write any combination of stories "proving" masks work.

Permeates through a lot of this. Simply the case when you do not have standardized reporting requirements or a centralized database.

I don't think there is much arguing that the summer spike in California was much less severe than Florida's. Now why that occured can be debated, but the y-axis does confirm that the spike in California was much less this summer than Florida's.

Look at the trends after the vaccine came out and end results. One state protected its citizens, the other completely dropped the ball resulting in a 47% higher death rate, partially because of fake news reports like the op posted

How do you classify "protected"? Did the state of Texas restrict vaccine supply? Where did the government of Texas post fake news reports? Californias upswing in Feb/March was much higher than Florida. Why did California fail to protect its citizens and allow people to die?

Look at MN, WI, MI, IL, PA. Also look at Washington and Oregon. Things are trending the wrong way in those states. Will it reach the same numbers as Texas? Probably not. States with similar policies as Texas and Florida all have been going through huge spikes similar to earlier this year. Oklahoma. Georgia. West Virginia.

Interesting, while other states are counting probable cases and deaths, California seems to only be reporting confirmed. No wonder their number look better.
Masks in schools are worthless, especially with the delta variant. My kids go to a large private school in DFW and we were masked last year. Not this year. There were a few cases at the beginning…. And no cases since mid September. Out of 1500 kids only a handful of cases so far this school year. Food for thought for all those in favor of masks….

If masking is so effective, we never should have seen all those earlier pre-vaccine spikes when the entire world was still freaked out over Covid. States like Illinois had their biggest peak when you couldn't go anywhere without a mask and many schools were still shut down. People will throw up graphs of some state or country to try to prove how masking works while ignoring all the places around the planet where Covid spiked despite strict mask policies. It's a virus, it can't be controlled, and it's virtually impossible to predict or make sense of what it does.

I live in Virginia and travel a lot for work. During the pandemic I have been to Florida, Arizona, California, DC, Maryland and VA.
VA has very lax restrictions compared to Maryland and DC. Very few mask mandates even in the northern VA area (e.g. my gym has never mandated masks the entire pandemic). Very few restaurant restrictions compared to DC and Maryland. So VAs success has nothing to do with harsh lockdowns or mask mandates. We've fared better than DC and Maryland who both imposed more restrictions.
I was shocked by how many people went maksless while I was in San Diego. I was expecting 100% masking in California. Not the case at all. Fewer masks in San Diego than Miami. More crowds and groups in San Diego. Miami gyms and hotels had mask requirements, most in San Diego did not.
The reality on the ground in these places is so different than what the media reports. If you start traveling, you'll likely be surprised at the delta between news and reality.

By the way, Washington and Oregon are 45th and 46th in terms of covid death rates. They're doing beautifully.
