49 and otherwise healthy with one dose of Moderna, was supposed to get second shot this week. Anyone know where I can get monoclonal treatment without risk factors? My doctor gave me orders for it but wasn't sure if I would be able to get it. Any help would be great!

I don't know but have you tried teledoc? Not sure if they can prescribe and not sure what evidence they require for the risks (proof of BMI? Proof of hypertension?).

I'm 47 and just recovered from Covid. My doc prescribed me Ivermectin, Hydroxychloroquine, a Z pack, and Budesonide. I never got very sick. My doc said I was not sick enough for the infusion although he could have given it to me. He told me that he has given this same treatment regimen to over 3000 people and not one has been admitted to the hospital when beginning the treatment early on. He said starting early is the key.

I live in Northeast Harris County, so far Methodist Woodlands, Kingwood ER, and Neighbors in Mt. Belvieu. Evidently my BMI is below the threshold and I don't have any other risk factors.

I ran into the same issue so my PCP lied to get me in for the infusion but I ended up being admitted to the hospital the next day after scheduling it.

I thought the point of the infusion was to prevent getting sick and needed to be done early.

Also, what city is your doc?

The infusion needs to be done early. That is correct.

For the OP, get your doc to send a referral to this site https://www.stateoftexasinfusionhotline.com/s/. They will hook you up.

Good luck.

Charpie,

Do you know if you have to be over a specific BMI to receive treatment?

As an ICU nurse, I can say that these docs are the true heroes.

I don't think so. My very skinny friend just got diagnosed and she's the one telling everyone how to go about getting the antibodies.

I also wanted to add to my earlier post that when I went to see my Doc when I first tested positive, I specifically asked him about receiving the monoclonal antibodies because I had heard so many great things about that treatment. He told me that he only gives it to individuals who are either very ill or older. He said I would only need the treatment I described in my prior post. Just thought it was interesting and wanted to share.

For some perspective, I ran a low grade fever for two days, had body aches/ muscle pain, bad headache, some intestinal issues, significant fatigue, and head congestion. The head congestion and fatigue lasted for over two weeks. Never really got into my chest and never had breathing problems. Blood oxygen was at 98 or 97 the whole time. I started all the prescriptions on day 3 after onset of symptoms.

First, the studies aren't being conducted by 3 letter government agencies.

Second, science is most definitely not my God, but it is a valuable tool for separating the wheat from the chaff, i.e., anecdotal stories from reliable results. Our entire modern system of medicine is based on reliable studies and trials, and they are what has allowed us to finally get rid of stuff like "bleeding" as a cure for sickness.

Finally, note that there have also been many anecdotal stories on this website of people who did take ivermectin early but nevertheless became severely ill.

I'm not at all against ivermectin. In fact, months ago I sought out a doctor who prescribed it and then bought some, just in case. However, my mind was changed by the facts - i.e., study after study showing that ivermectin does not make much of a difference with Covid.

My wife and I were able to get the infusion therapy at Next Level Urgent Care, the location on San Felipe in Houston. Hope that helps! This was a few months ago however.

PCP prescribe? Did you have one of the risk factors or was the doctor just ok with prescribing?

I am fishing b/c some day I may want it but right now don't really fit any of the criteria...

Also, did you have some of the fever, chills in the initial 12 hours or so that others have described?

For OP. I got Covid and had a pretty rough time of it. Had sustained fevers for 10 days. I was able to get the infusion on day 9. It took 24 hours, but it basically killed the virus. All symptoms gone except the damage to my lungs which I'm still recovering from after 3 weeks. If you have a BMI over 25 you qualify at your age. The first doctor I asked in the ER said the BMI threshold was 35 and I didn't qualify. I asked a second doctor the next day and they qualified me. I was scheduled 24 hours later. Check your BMI. Check your blood pressure for hypertension. My blood pressure also went up to hypertension levels when I got Covid. If you can get it, it's worth it.

Thanks to everyone for the information. I currently have very mild symptoms, no fever, no chills or body aches, just a cough and some drainage. Not sure whether or not to expect to get worse or if I am only going to have minor symptoms. If this was a sinus infection and not Covid I would think that I am on the mend. Only reason I am concerned is that I have heard about so many people getting really sick later in the illness like around day 6 or 7.

Non-doctor opinion....if your doctor has given you orders / prescription for it....I would hold on to it and I would also know 3 - 5 places near you where you can get the treatment just in case you wake up one morning and feel you have taken a turn downward. Do research now and be prepared but thankfully sounds like you are experiencing what a majority of people that get infected deal with....

ETA: 979-690-4478 is the direct number for the monoclonal infusion center in College Station

Bryan/College Station has a center that started doing infusions last week. There was an article in the paper yesterday that said if demand doesn't pick up they will have to scale down the operation. They are set up for large numbers of patients daily, but have only been administering about 15 infusions. If you are willing to drive up from Houston and have the order, I think it would be worth a call to them and get on their schedule. I don't have the number or I would post, but a quick google should help you out. Hope you feel better quickly.

Sorry, but there has to be more to this statement from your doc. On the surface, the math just doesn't add up. Most family practice docs are going to have around 2000-2500 patients total. Even assuming he had 3000 patients, there's no way 100% of his panel of patients had COVID. I find it highly unlikely that he's had that many patients test positive, and even more unlikely they all reached out to him for treatment. As someone who is in family practice, the majority of mild cases we don't even hear about until after they have recovered. They just don't feel the need to seek out treatment because their symptoms are mild.

The Doc I saw is not a PCP. He is an ER Doc at a small, privately owned ER/Urgent Care facility. They see thousands of patients there. Tyler is not a large City. This particular ER has a reputation around here as one of the best places to seek treatment/care. I'm not saying he is 100% accurate, I'm only stating what I was told.

That's more understandable in terms of numbers. Just never heard anyone refer to the ER/UC doc as "my doc".

I was able to get the infusion this morning. There is a lot of bad information out there in regard to qualifying for the infusion. If you know anyone that needs it, Montgomery Regional Infusion Center 9201 Pinecroft Dr The Woodlands, TX. All you need is a positive test result and they take walk ins.

Glad to hear. So no doctors notes, etc?

I assume that is partially driven with recent declines in positive cases, etc. Hopefully a good sign for supply and maybe they can keep building it up so it will remain that way should there be another winter wave...

Excellent! Great to hear! Hopefully you kick Covid quickly and can get out of quarantine ASAP.
