It's a general good rule of thumb to not take medical advice from a politician. Still waiting to review the evidence of molnupiravir, but I'm not sure I understand this obsession with comparing ivermectin to molnupiravir. They are not similar whatsoever.

The current vaccines are inferior. They were designed for Alpha and it's gone. They still work against Delta, but not nearly as well as something specifically designed for it. We should have been giving Delta boosters for the past 3 months. We also should have a quick review process to identify dangerous variants and have mRNA vaccines ready for them a few months after that.

mRNA is cool like that. As soon as we can sequence the genome of the spike protein, we can make a new mRNA vaccine in a day and mass produce it in a few weeks. We just need a clinical trial and regulatory fast track.

I guess the only "issue" would be determining which strands to develop for or not.

Obviously seems like Delta would be worth the investment and should have been pretty clear early on.

We have had others that come and go almost overnight....not sure how accurate the reports are but seems like the Mu variant has already somehow been eradicated...

How do they do it with flu strains?

Is it a catalog of approved vaccines for known strains that they pull from each year? Or do they go through the standard testing process each year?

The big Advantage of the mRNA vaccines is that they can make a new targeted vaccine literally over the weekend.

Yeah. Dont take advice from politicians. Even those that are physicians like Dr. Rand Paul.

Instead take advice from a career bureaucrat who used taxpayer money to fund the research that aided the creation of the china virus and are also heavily invested in the firms that produce the vaccine and remdesivir (which he promoted as a miracle cure until it came out recently that its basically not a good treatment).

If you are good little boys and girls, maybe he will let you have Christmas!

I fumed for the 45ish minutes of my time, including driving and the 15 min wait after both shots. I also was foggy for a few hours the next day after shot two.

I'm angry about stopping by the doctor to get the flu shot yet again when my kids get theirs.

I get equally angry at the two dental appointments I go to every year which honest cause me more discomfort than all the shots I've ever gotten in total in my life.

When it comes to public health measures in general or virology in particular, the only kind of doctor I would go to for advice after a dermatologist is an opthalmologist.

I honestly have no idea. I just know that they identify the 3-4 most likely flu variants based on the Southern Hemisphere flu season and have our vaccines ready by late August. So it's like a month or 6 weeks start to finish

I knew they turned around the flu vaccines really quickly. I'd be curious to know why they haven't reprogrammed or started making a dual strain mRNA vaccine.

I guess it has to do with the phenomenon that the right public health policy and the ideal patient care aren't always the same thing"

For example:Changing the vaccine and the down time from effectively "retooling" a factory could be worse on a macro scale (public health) than the improved efficacy on a micro scale (a specific person)

Obviously the article with hand picked doctors. Duh.

Let me see if I can find a major news outlet with opinions of doctors not pushing the vaccines that cost $40 each and don't work. Yeah, they aren't free and those making them are laughing all the way to bank. Add in the boosters and they laugh even more. Sure would be nice for modern medicine and pharma to actually cure something instead of constantly treating the symptoms. Guess there's no money in that though.

When it comes to COVID, many people, including Paul, have crossed boundaries. CDC / Fauci / etc have all made decisions / statements that are outside of their normal lanes with amazing consequences that they could care less about....

...And the fluids. Every year I go in for a physical they are taking my blood and my urine. WHAT ARE THEY DOING WITH IT ALL???!!!!

Are they holding it for ransom in the future? Secret government funded experiments? Or is it just because they can and want to 'control' us?

Not at all. I'm a rural FP. I've treated COVID patients in my clinic, treated COVID patients in the hospital, and even treated ICU level COVID patients. I'm constantly scouring the latest research to provide the best care. He may have educational background, but I doubt he's taken care of anyone with any respiratory problems or heart conditions in decades if ever. Not to mention that he doesn't actively treat COVID patients, unlike every primary care, hospitalist and critical care doctor in the US right now

I don't even know anyone on this board who likes or trusts Fauci. Some brilliant chemists developed a life-saving shot, and I took it. Very thankful to have it.

As for Fauci, he hasn't done any real science in decades. He was just a poorly placed bureaucrat who has risen through the admin ranks for decades. I guess there may be a few folks, but I'm not aware of anyone here who thinks he's done a good job.

They are building clones of us for research purposes. Oh, they'll say it's for noble causes like that, so they can look into creating bioengineered human organs for transplants, etc but it's not a big leap to see that replicants are a real option down the road.

I would keep an eye on my credit score if I were you. This thing goes deeper than any of us realize.

Congrats on being a better doctor, I guess. This thing has been around for a little less than 2 years and most of these doctors act like they've been studying and treating it for decades. Why don't y'all just admit that, in general, very little is known about it and how to treat. For how ****ing long were people told "Go home and good luck" when they got a positive diagnosis? Now all the sudden, people are damned experts on something they've never dealt with before. And THEN, a shiny new "vaccine" is rolled out that the govt pays for with our tax dollars and purported to be the best thing since sliced bread. It was going to save us all when in reality, it's a poor excuse for a vaccine that people STILL don't know the extent of side effects, but TAKE THE JAB NOW!!! THINK OF YOUR NEIGHBOR! SAVE A LIFE!

And I'd wager good money that Rand Paul has read as much if not more of the latest research covid as most doctors. You just don't like what he has to say because it flies in the face of what the govt and big pharma has told the obedient doctors to say.

A life saving shot that might kill you as well. Weird, I can't remember ever reading about people dying from the HPV vaccine or a flu vaccine or a hep B vaccine or a chickenpox vaccine.

Dr. Rev mentioned several times early that FPs basically have to do their own research on trends and how to treat new problems. This is one of several things I learned during Covid that shocked me.

Is the information coming out of CDC, NIAID or any other government organization getting better on treating Covid patients?

Its really hard for commoners like me to find good apolitical information on Covid. Is that the same for doctors or are the scientific articles still very apolitical?

I use medical journals, society recommendations and my physican contacts to determine the latest and greatest for all this. There is almost zero political noise once you start getting technical. Red and blue team don't really matter when you're in charge of the medical care of someone on a ventilator

Honestly, lack of leadership is my best guess. We knew from Israel and England that delta is more contagious and that our current vaccinations were less effective against it. We also knew at the end of spring that COVID alpha had pretty much died off. Someone should have put those two facts together and pushed for rapid approval for a slighty modified booster for Delta. So it's either a lack of awareness, initiative, or judgement, any of which shows a lack of leadership.

Now that delta is starting to die down in most of the country, maybe we can do better next time. If a new variant pops up and causes other countries issues, then we should have enough time to make a new booster before it swamps us here

Rand Paul is as knowledgeable about covid as most F/GPs. They both went to medical school and just because he doesn't specialize in virology doesn't mean he is clueless. Lord knows he's a hell of a lot more credible and reliable than this board's lord and savior, Fauci.
I don't even know anyone on this board who likes or trusts Fauci. Some brilliant chemists developed a life-saving shot, and I took it. Very thankful to have it.

As for Fauci, he hasn't done any real science in decades. He was just a poorly placed bureaucrat who has risen through the admin ranks for decades. I guess there may be a few folks, but I'm not aware of anyone here who thinks he's done a good job.
A life saving shot that might kill you as well. Weird, I can't remember ever reading about people dying from the HPV vaccine or a flu vaccine or a hep B vaccine or a chickenpox vaccine.
I guess you haven't spent two months with your child as an inpatient at Texas Children's Hospital, then. You'd see some crazy things. People die from vaccines all the time. There's a one in a million chance I'll go into shock when I get my allergy shot.
