https://www.onmanorama.com/lifestyle/health/2021/10/01/merck-pill-promise-against-hospitalisation-Covid.amp.html

"An interim analysis of a Phase-3 study, based on 775 trial participants, found that 7.3 per cent of patients treated with molnupiravir were hospitalised within 29 days. Of the patients who received a placebo, 14.1 per cent were hospitalised or died by day 29. No deaths were reported in patients who were given molnupiravir within the 29-day period, while eight deaths were reported in placebo-treated patients."

Merck CEO claims the results of this drug is compelling. How are these numbers remarkable? I think we're seeing the money/corporate side of covid shining through now. If someone has a better source which includes the study, please share.

Anyway, what the hell is molnupiravir?

Maybe I am misreading your post but Are you complaining that pharmaceutical companies are testing and releasing treatments for covid?

That is literally what this country is built on. The market being presented/discovering a problem and profiting from a solution that they developed

As far as what it is. Is it antiviral that has demonstrated significant efficacy against covid.

I am betting the pro-Ivermectin crowd that complains that the medical community is doing nothing to treat COVID, will somehow be mad about a COVID treatment option from the makers of Ivermectin.

No. I'm good with this pill, pending review and studies. Sorry that all of your antivaxx boogie men don't fit in your straw man suit. But either way, I'm still not taking the vaccine.
The Covidian is a strange sort: he both relies on “science” and ignores it. Perhaps because it’s not “science” at all, but rather just the TV.

If it works, cool. The CEO's comments seem premature, but he obviously knows more than me. Considering how long approval takes with the FDA historically, a 700 person sample size needs to be applied to all other drugs which may be in line waiting. I don't think our country was found on extreme barriers to entry.

I hope it works. However, the cynical side of me knows that remdesivir looked good when they tried it in a 1000 person trial. Based on current data it looks worthless, though.

This is also a early, prehospital treatment. We already have two good ways to keep people out of the hospital, vaccines and monoclonal antibodies. This would basically be a cheaper, less effective alternative to monoclonals. Still good but not world-changing. It would be really nice to have a proven treatment for people already in the hospital. That's the big hole in toolkit right now.

I am genuinely curious why you are opposed to drugs via a shot but not via pill form? I personally don't see a difference if I get a vaccine all at once or a pill every day. I prefer the one time dose to constant pill taking. But I am curious why you prefer a pill format.

I think the pro-Ivermectin crowd will be upset at this new drug, considering it is a protease inhibitor, same as Ivermectin. But, Ivermectin is bad….

Maybe they're COMPLETELY different in molecular design. But, I wouldn't go betting the farm on that.

That's a good question. For me the issue comes down to whether I'm forced to take it. I'm not scared to die..it has nothing to do with. I know we are all going to die, but when you start mandating I have to do something, things are different.

I took the vaccine so I would not have to worry about Covid, but was not ever required to do so.

Just like how my F150 and my motorcycle are both ICE powered vehicles. Can I move a lumber with either one? Sure. But the truck was actually designed for do that.

Ivermectin might exhibit protease inhibition but this drug was designed to be a protease inhibitor.

You are thinking about this from a first word perspective. This would absolutely be a game changer in areas that don't have the infrastructure to support the distribution, storage and final delivery of monoclonal antibodies.

Maybe. I just figured most developing countries would put their eggs in the vaccine basket as it is cheaper and more effective than either monoclonals or these pills. I have no idea how many people in other countries are refusing vaccines, though.

My apologies for actually trying to have a discussion with you. You stated your reasoning for not taking the vaccine was you didn't like government mandates, my response was I didn't recall a government mandate for me to take the vaccine.

But you F16 warriors cannot have a discussion, it must become a fight. So note to self, avoid any meaningful discussion with you.

I've tried having conversations several times here and invariably my post are deleted. Perhaps, not your side per se, but the vaxxer side has drawn a line in the sand. I'm sorry if I misread you, but after a year of being told that I'm wrong, killing meemaw, or somehow responsible for vaxxed people getting the virus, you might say that I'm a bit on edge.

I'm sorry, but when it comes down to it, there is little room for movement. I made what I consider a rational decision under the circumstances. My steadfast adherence to freedom would probably be swayed for something with a greater cfr than 99.70%. But based on my risks, I'm not willing to be mandated.

Edit: to add, what are you talking about there has been no mandate?

Seems pretty similar to me. they are both carbon based with 3 hydroxide groups... I don't think you made the point you think you did.

This time next week this quote will be used by troll farms everywhere. I bet Stella Emanuel will even be quoting Dr. Idaho.

Ramblin - what is the current hospital treatment? Plasma? I hear a lot of oxygen, but I assume that's just treating the symptoms.

I'm no expert. We use oxygen, steroid and some amount of anticoagulation on everyone. We have plasma and remdesivir but not everyone uses it as data is poor for benefit. If we are worried about secondary infection we use antibiotics, but if we're not we don't. Some of the guys here that do more ICU work have some experimental anti-inflammatory medicines that we don't have. So I wouldn't be able to speak much to that. As far as inpatient treatments, the heavy lifters are all things you could have found in a hospital in the 1950s

Why are you good with a brand new pill FAR less info available but not a vaccine?

I mean I am very glad there is soon to be a less expensive treatment option but I don't understand your thought process, brand new treatment good, vaccine we have enormous experience with not good…….total lack of logic here.

In your rush to judgment, you failed to read the second clause of my very second sentence (if you consider "no" to have been a sentence). While you were so eager to chastise my lack of "logic," you allowed yourself to succumb to passion and utterly fail any semblance of reading comprehension. Good work! I'm sure it will serve you well.

Also, maybe you could have read my other replies that followed. But nah...you had a vaxxer hard on from your crotch to your brain.
