Has one vaccine proven to be more effective than others?

Considering getting the vaccine... which should I get?

I believe the numbers all point to the Moderna vaccine being the best version for the Delta variant. It has the highest effectiveness against contracting the virus and the highest against a serious illness is you do contract the virus.

Anecdotal. My 8yo got covid a few weeks ago. In our house, two moderna adults got nothing, 1 pfizer teen got a runny nose.

Moderna is clearly superior based on current data.

Is it known why Moderna is more effective or are there any solid hypotheses? I was trying to refresh myself on the differences in mRNA tech vs. Pfizer but an initial Google search wasn't super helpful.

Much higher dose.

Pfizer picked a COVID-19 vaccine dose far lower than Moderna's to minimize side effects, its top scientist says (yahoo.com)

If wife (immuno-compromised) got the Pfizer last year, should her booster be Moderna?

No data on that so FDA/CDC is recommending staying with the one you started with.

I'm convinced that this is why the three of us who got Pfizer didn't have any kind of reaction to it, but GeoAg, who got the Moderna, had six hours of fever.

I got worried, actually, when we had no immune response to the vaccine. It would have given me confidence that it was working.

I really would like to go get a dose of Moderna as a booster. My spike level was in the 200s when checked last month, where Geo's was in the 2000s.

Nobody is going to stop you, there is just no data to argue for or against it so anyone that tries to base decisions on data is clueless with that specific question.

Based on the data we do have I think it is reasonable to at least consider switching to Moderna. There is no reason it should be dangerous outside of the increased risk of short term side effects with Moderna vs Pfizer. I had pretty severe short term effects with my Moderna #2- chills, fever, headache, nausea for about a day. Annoying but not scary.

Yeah, I'm not scared of it. My parents and I will likely all try to get the Moderna next time if they'll let us.

Thanks for the info.

KD - I got the JJ, as did the wife. Should we get a booster of the Moderna?

I am immunocompromised after a kidney transplant and my transplant doctors recommended that I stay with what I took the first 2 times for my booster.

With that said, I am glad it was Moderna even though all 3 doses kicked my butt with side effects.

Again there is no data on this pattern so it is impossible to give any informed advice on it. The early data on JJ booster dose seems pretty solid though so I would wait on that if you can.

My husband and I both got a third dose last Friday. He got Pfizer and I got Moderna. We are both the same age (early 50's). I was in bed for 2 days with high fever (101 - 103.6), body aches, chills, joint pain and all he had was a sore arm. While I was laying in bed he was out biking and playing tennis.

Which has the least significant side effects? Save the inevitable "side effects are one in a billion so you should go f yourself you anti-science scum, you're the reason for everything bad in the history of the universe and you should die a horrible and painful death" for another thread. I have natural immunity from a recent harmless case of delta and I just want to have an option in case I am forced to earn my "freedom" in the future. Visiting my sister in SF for thanksgiving might be a choice between hurting my family and taking something I don't need out of coercion. If it were any other scenario i wouldn't do it and say go to hell to societies that are forcing it upon people if they want to be in that society, but unfortunately in this case I will choose my family over my actual freedom to choose, by taking something I shouldn't be forced to take. I know I know, I'm disgusted by myself for even considering doing it out of force, but I might have no choice. Integrity, principals and self respect are out the window in the current world we live in.

So…knowing that I won't get a benefit from any of them against the current strain (again, save the bull**** responses for someone else), which is the least harmful?
