You'll get COVID tested about 48-72 hours before. If it's negative everything proceeds as normal. Most hospitals want to do the full PCR test, I'd be surprised if they rapid tested you at the door but that's possible. If it's positive you'll have to reschedule. If it's an outpatient procedure, they may require a driver on site that will be available to pick you up but they might not be allowed inside (depends on the hospital). If it's inpatient and you'll be out of it for awhile, generally they allow one person to stay with you (depends on the hospital, that person also may be rapid tested).

Depending on what they are doing, you'll have to wear a mask the whole time, even in recovery. The anesthesiologist will remove it for what they need to do and put it back on afterwards before you wake up.

The surgeon said if I had my Vax card that sufficed. I gave them that. They said I would have a rapid test done beforehand. If I was not vaccinated a full panel test would be done. This is Seaton

Why are you asking a message board full of trolls, and not the medical professionals you and your insurance are paying tens of thousands of dollars?

I had a small outpatient surgery last week and did not even have to get tested beforehand.

I had a small procedure done in July and they scheduled a day and place for me to get tested 3 days prior even though I was vaccinated (and before delta was really a thing here). They did a temp check and questionnaire at the door and another before they started the procedure. Results came back the day before.

Have a 2 hour outpatient surgery next week. Need to get tested no more than 7 days before. Seems pointless but it is what it is.

Why is that? I also have a hernia and the surgeon is talking about using mesh. Inquiring minds want to know.
