So my spouse (both of us in our twenties) tested positive for Covid Monday and then again Sunday morning. We thought it was just allergies when she started feeling bad on Friday so I didn't quarantine or anything.

Once we found out that she did have Covid, I quarantined and got tested yesterday, Wednesday, and came back negative. I'm not really sure how I didn't test positive since I've been sleeping in the same bed and caring for her since she's had it.

Just wondering if anyone knows what my odds are of still getting the virus now or it being a false negative? I test again on Monday to go back to work and she still has symptoms.

Are you showing symptoms? Which test type did you have done?

I'm not sure it follows any rhyme or reason. I had a buddy that was sick for almost 2 weeks. The first day of symptoms he tested and it was negative. Tested again a few days later and still negative. Tested again a few days later and finally popped positive. (I'm really not sure why he even kept testing, he was sick and staying home. I guess just the peace of mind of knowing what it was).

His wife was perfectly fine, kept testing negative, until right towards the end of his illness when all of a sudden she tested positive. She never had anything more than the sniffles though.

Interesting. That is what I'm worried about. Have been really cautious about it once I found out I tested negative. Although probably a little late.

And it was a rapid PCR test I believe from cap rock.

And no I haven't had any real symptoms besides a very mild head ache or sneeze here and there.

Why test is you aren't showing symptoms?

Are you vaccinated?

I'm not vaccinated. And since I live with her they asked that I get tested now and the day I come back. (Work that is)

Understood.

No one in my house got tested when I was positive. My son stayed home because he had some minor symptoms.

No one else in the house caught it.

She can be considered infectious from about 48 hours prior to her symptom onset till about 10 days after symptom onset. And then you can develop symptoms an average of about 5-6 days after exposure. Test are most accurate 7 days-10 days post exposure, or when having symptoms. So you may still get it (or already have it) and it's just too soon to test positive.

Some people are also not very contagious, and if that's the case you may have lucked out and only got minimal exposure. Minimal exposure would mean you get minimal to no symptoms but still get some immunity from it. Hopefully enough to prevent severe disease should you get massive exposure later on.

Thanks for the replies. I'm sure I probably contracted it considering I slept in the same bed until she tested positive. Seemed like everyone was getting allergies at this time so didn't put any thought into it. I'll keep a lookout

My son and I did not quarantine from my wife and daughter who did test positive and neither of us got it. I was exposed to 6 different people and never tested positive so it is hit or miss

Pretty much the same here. We all had similar symptoms show up at the same time but only two out of four produced positive test. We quarantined together but did not isolate from each other since we all seemed to have it.

I was showing a few symptoms, so the whole family got took PCR tests. My daugher and I were positive. My wife and son were negative. Daughter was completely asymptomatic, while I had just about every symptom. I isolated myself to a room for about a week and recovered fine. My daughter stayed home, but didn't completely isolate from wife and son. Wife and Son tested again a week later and were still negative. Seems like it was hit or miss.
