Please know up front, this isn't meant to be a political issue or contentious issue. I'm hoping to get some perspective from the medical field.

Two separate instances, one in Newport, TN (she was a friend of a friend), the other in DFW.

26 year old woman in Newport, 8 months pregnant, positive with Covid is placed on a ventilator. Doctors decide to perform an emergency C-section. Baby is fine...mother dies three or four days later from Covid.

32 year old woman who was a classmate with my daughter at Euless Trinity. Delivers a healthy full term baby but the mother is positive for Covid. She dies two days later.

I don't know if either were vaccinated, I suspect not (but I don't say that to get into a side bar issue).

My point in raising this is that two young women, deliver healthy full (or near) term babies and die of Covid. I would welcome any thoughts from the professionals on this forum. Thank you.

What's the question? How did two mothers deliver a healthy baby but die soon after?

Expectant mothers are an at risk group for Covid. Have been from the start. Granted, most live through it but they become susceptible to complications during the pregnancy if that contract covid. That's been pretty well documented.

In the case of the woman in Tennessee, she opted not to get vaccinated out of fear/concerns the affect it could have on her newborn. She worked at a local hardware store in Newport, TN, where five employees came down with Covid. Three ended up hospitalized. Her condition deteriorated to the point she was placed on a ventilator and the decision to perform the C-section. I guess I don't really have a question as to the circumstances. I was not aware of pregnant women delivering healthy babies then dying of Covid. And I was just hoping some in the medical community could share their perspective. TIA.

Yes, it seems to be happening. Some (few) mothers are contracting Covid late in their pregnancy and having complications. The doctors are able to save the baby in some circumstances but the mother doesn't always survive.

Then there are some mothers earlier in pregnancy that are losing their baby and sometimes their own life.

Pregnancy generally increases the risk of a poor covid outcome which is why the majority of obgyn's advocate for the vaccine. Devastating to lose your life as you usher in a new one that all you want to do is protect.

My neighbor is a NICU nurse at Texas Children's and she's seen a lot of COVID positive moms. They had one come in and she was in labor. She gave birth to a premie and went on a ventilator. She died without ever holding her baby. Baby died a few days later. Dad tested negative just in time to hold the baby one time.

She says they have a lot of COVID positive moms so they have to whisk the baby right away to keep them safe.

It's been harder on her than anything I've seen in the 10 years I've known her.

Knowing we had already beat Covid, our idiot doctors tried pretty aggressively to push the vaccine on my 5-6mo pregnant wife. We politely told em fffffuuuuuuu that.

We likely have superior immunity to anything a vaccine could offer, and you don't recommend children under 12 get the vaccine, but you want my unborn baby to basically get vaxxed? Piss off.

They honestly looked dumbfounded that someone with immunity would turn down the chance to get a rushed vaccine shot with baby in utero.

Hearing lots of anecdotal stuff about this vaccine potentially messing with menstrual cycles/fertility and even causing miscarriages. Would like to see more official info on this though.

I probably would have taken the same actions you and your wife did, given you both had Covid. One of my co-workers is scheduled to have her baby next Friday. When she was around 12-16 weeks pregnant, she told me she was going to get the Phizer shot (she has not had Covid). I was incredulous...thought it was a ridiculous idea...but I kept my opinion to myself.

Regarding your doctors, I'm shocked they're not reading the literature. What appears to be a very comprehensive study out of Israel essentially came to the conclusion that anyone that previously had Covid was 'Golden.' (My words, not theirs) and their immunity far surpassed anything that could be gained from a shot.

At this point, I just don't have an opinion, given that mothers are delivering babies and dying. Good luck to both of you!

What else do we know about these moms? We're they 100 lbs overweight before giving birth?

My OB had a stillborn baby in a COVID positive mom, not overweight. She thinks it's more of a factor of how fast the woman gains weight during pregnancy that puts a strain on the body. In non-pregnant women, 25-30 pounds weight gain in less then 9 months would really mess someone up internally.

We just gave birth to our fifth child. Mom got vaccine back in April. Mom/baby are both fine.

Hosptial we went to did say it has been crazy and they did lost a mom/baby a couple weeks ago that was preggo, then got covid. Another mom is recovering with a 31 week old baby they delivered so they could use more aggressive treatments on mom. Not sure how they are doing.

I'm glad my wife got the vaccine. Her choice as she did the risk assessment and figured better that way. It worked for us.

congratulations on being clueless and completely misinformed. It's not a "rushed" vaccine and your doctors aren't "idiots" no matter how many times you say it.

Also there is no evidence you have superior immunity to to a vaccinated person. This kind of misinformed groupthink would be sad if it wasn't so dangerous.

Lots of anecdotal and conjecture info points here, best point would be a conversation with your healthcare provider on the pros and cons for vaccines while pregnant. Before COVID I remember flu vaccine was highly advised.

Bottomline is that everyone wants a healthy and safe pregnancy. I think there is enough evidence that pregnancy and COVID don't mix well, to have that healthy and safe pregnancy. Vaccination will probably be recommended by most providers dependent on patient circumstances.

Same thing happened to our housekeeper's niece. The niece had declined the vaccine out of false fear of protecting her baby. Turns out she got Covid, they had to emergency C-section the baby, the niece got to see a picture of the baby before she died. This was at Texas children's in Houston. Baby apparently is doing well

Simple google search yields plenty of news articles and studies that state those recovered from covid have stronger protection than those who have been vaccinated.

I am of the opinion your statement is not accurate.

Israeli research

Quote:

Indeed, this happened recently when researchers at Maccabi Healthcare Services in Tel Aviv released a preprint (a study that is yet to be reviewed by other experts) suggesting people who had been infected with COVID had greater protection than vaccinated people against becoming reinfected with the delta variant.

Not trying to incite, I just seek facts.

The fact that natural immunity through recovery hasn't been accepted on the same level as vaccination suggests the political influence on "science"

For aggressively pushing our fetus to take the vaccine when it is not recommended for children under 12 (16 per the FDA). When both of us had already fully recovered and reinfections are rare?

THAT IS IDIOTIC.

Good friend just delivered twins with covid. All are doing great. She was not vaccinated. The delivery was much more difficult with the covid protocol's though.

I am pro vaccine...anti mask..anti any mandate.
