which of the 2 are more accurate the rapid antigen test or the pcr test?

Also, what are current guidelines for the following?
1) 12 year old tested positive on Saturday with very mild symptoms. Was told 10 days quarantine and he can go back to school. What if symptoms subside and we can retest? Can it be as early as 7 days?
2) remainder of the family is vaxxed...does anyone have to test or quarantine? I assume no if no symptoms, but just getting multiple opinions.

For #1, I suspect your school has a policy that lays out the requirements. #2 is really dependent on what you are looking to do and whose guidelines you want to base your decision on.

And I believe PCR is the most reliable.

Thought same thing on pcr....clinic did both on my son but since rapid popped positive they said they won't even send pcr off for analysis...seems odd

Rapid has poor sensitivity but good specificity. That means a positive is a positive but a negative is -- eh

Our district allows return of a confirmed positive student after 10 days if no symptoms OR with a negative test and no symptoms. YMMV from district to district.

I was curious about the second part and did not find anything on the district (Frisco) site about quarantine of a student with confirmed positive person in the house. However, the CDC says fully vaccinated persons do not need to quarantine after close contact unless showing symptoms, FWIW and also YMMV.

It's not a school issue though...day 10 is next Sunday. We have an out of town function on Saturday that we planned to attend. Thinking we might test on Friday and make a call.

Gotcha. My brain was stuck on school. Good luck.
