Any of y'all used these and know anything about them? Stepdaughter developed a cough on Thursday and we figured just allergies. Yesterday she got her 2nd vaccine shot and has run a 102deg fever today.

Out of extra caution, wife gave her the QuickVue test today before she went to be around her grandparents. The test showed positive at first, then pretty shortly afterwards faded to negative. So now we have no idea if that means positive or Negative. Trying to get her in for a more accurate test, but any thoughts on that QuickVue?

Might just me but, even in the before times, I wouldn't send a kid to their grandparents if they were throwing a fever. Unless, of course, I didn't like them or I was waiting on a substantial inheritance

Yeah, agreed, not likely to happen. It really just looked like allergies until after she got her 2nd shot.

Really at this point, the testing is to make sure we can get her the Monoclonal infusion if pops positive and to keep an eye on ourselves.

Just wondered if it's typical for that test to show positive then fade negative

Edit- wife, myself, and her grandparents are also all vaccinated

Read the instructions. The binaxNow t we St say that results have to be read between 15-30 mins. I don't know if that means it will fade or end up making a false positive

Instructions said to read at 10 minutes after being in the water and no more than 5 minutes after removing. I guess when she removed it, it was positive, then faded. She doesn't remember if it was before or after 5 minutes though.

I'm "assuming" it's positive, but who knows. She's off to take the rapid test at Minor Emergency to double check.

It's like a pregnancy test. Any positive line is a positive.

That's my gut feeling too. Just wonder because it was faint to start and then totally disappeared.

There's no way that getting the vaccine shot yesterday would cause a positive is there?

We used these. They showed positive for my wife and 6 y/o son when they got sick. But my wife's was only positive on the second test, 24+ hours after symptoms set in. The positives were unmistakably positive. Red line was more prominent than the blue control line. And they didn't fade. If anything, they got darker red as the minutes went by with the strip out of the solution.

The liquid turns pinkish as it wicks up the test strip. If you pull it out early and try to read it, you'll probably see pink. And it might even look like a pinkish line, depending on the level the liquid has reached in wicking up. I'd say, if it was negative at 10 minutes when it's supposed to be read, it's negative.

But definitely use the second strip 24-36 hours later. These things are not as sensitive as PCR tests, so it can take another day and a half for the viral loads to build up and test positive.

It was faintly positive at the 10 minute mark when supposed to be read. Then that faded away.

She has an appt tomorrow for a more accurate test at a pediatric clinic in town.

Finding an available testing today has been impossible.
