Covid kicked my butt

When I was sick, I was looking for others who had similar experiences to me. Found some on this board which helped. Gave me a little encouragement that it would be over soon. I figured I'd add mine.

39 years old. Unvaccinated. No comorbidities to speak of. I'm generally healthy. Exercise 4-5 times a week.

But a few weeks ago I got shingles. Probably from stress. Then as i was finally recovering my kid got covid at school. Everyone in my family got it then. I'm the only one who was just destroyed. I had every single symptom listed. The worst was the nausea.

Day 7 was the worst of it. There was a point when I was laying on the bathroom floor sweating and debating whether I would just sleep there that I thought maybe I should go to the hospital. I didn't eat for three days and lost 7 pounds. I didn't go though and somehow made it back in bed.

Day 8 I slept through the night for the first time and woke up feeling like a new man. All the symptoms decreased tremendously. Still don't have taste and smell, but I can deal with that. I'm out of quarantine now and gaining strength back.

That sucked. But everything changed for me on Day 8. It was night and day.

Glad you are okay. Day 8 seems to be the tipping point for many unvaccinated on whether they get better or go downhill requiring a hospital stay.

It was day 8 for me when I entered the ER. Took all the supplements needed plus Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine and didn't help.

Glad you are doing ok discobrob.

Same here. 37 5'11 190lbs and pretty healthy. Day 7 went to the ER. Spent 4 days on o2 for pneumonia. Took another three weeks to get back to normal. Sometimes it kicks your ass. It's currently kicking my friends ass who is fully vaccinated and very fit.

Only reason I knew I had it was my sister tested positive and I couldn't smell my scotch.

34 and healthy.

My entire extended family has had it. 16 of us that we know have had it between 30 and 83. The only two in my family that had significant symptoms were my 80 and 83 year old grandfathers but even they did not require medical intervention.

What vaccine did your friend have? Is he hospitalized?

I'm glad you're better and pray your friend recovers as well.

It's a weird thing. My wife had the sniffles for a few hours and that was it. My 9 year old barely slowed down. My 5 year old didn't slow down. My 12 year old was down for a couple of days and now is slowly regaining his lungs. I was surprised at how much it took me down, but it most certainly did. My thought is that it was the shingles that destroyed my immune system right before. Doc warned me this would happen and wanted me to get a vaccine. Wouldnt have helped because of the timing I guess.

Was your wife vaccinated?

Good news for you is that you should have some good immunity now.

Had you considered getting vaccinated before the shingles event? Do you wish you had been?

I'm contemplating getting vaccinated, but as a teacher I've currently got Covid cases all around me. A concern is getting vaccinated while catching Covid at the same time.

I would encourage each of you to get in the Texas Cares study. There is something about the healthy lot of you that got super sick.

She had the J&J. Was not hospitalized. She's a Pediatric nurse practitioner so she's exposed to it all the time.

My wife was not vaccinated. We're healthy people and never really considered it.

I was only contemplating a vaccine because of how annoying everything is going to be for those who are unvaccinated. I didn't have ethical or religious objections or anything and my biggest hesitation has been that no one knows the long term effects. I don't regret the decision I made but that sure sucked.

I don't know what that is but I'd like to be helpful. Link me?

I have the same beliefs as you. Hopefully, I won't end up regretting it.

The only thing I will say is that you can't control everything. I bet it wouldn't have bothered me if I didn't have shingles first. I couldn't control that. I got shingles and then almost immediately covid. So technically I wasn't healthy and I was considered immunocompromised and there was nothing I could've done at that point. I always say that immunocompromised should of course be vaccinated. I never imagined that I'd be in that camp so fast.

As a teacher you just have to assume you are going to get virus in next few months. Vaccine would be a no brainer. We do know long term effects of vaccines, and we do know long term effects of Covid. Covid effects and risks are much greater.

How do we know long term affects of either? Disease is not even two years old and the vaccine is what? 7 months?
