Trying to get decent sleep and one of the supplements I'm taking is causing mild insomnia.

I've been taking:
Vitamin D
Zinc
Melatonin 10mg
Emergen-C some nights

Wake up between 2a and 4a for a couple hours the last few nights. Not exercising which is a change, normal caffeine intake. Haven't had covid the entire time I've been taking those supplements.

Any guidance appreciated.

Take the Vitamin D in the morning. I've taken it as a supplement for years. I had the same problem and doctor told me to move it to the morning. Fixed my issues.

That's a ton of melatonin. Like all sleep aids, melatonin should be used to help you fall asleep, not stay asleep. Too much will affect sleep quality, and ability to even stay asleep sometimes.

If I take it, I have 1mg tablets that I will usually cut in half, sometimes quarters. Prevailing hypothesis right now is that we all take way too much, and that 0.3mg is probably the sweet spot.

It may take some getting used to for a week or two if you cut back, because your brain is used to getting slammed with so much melatonin at once, that cutting back might cause trouble falling asleep.

Also, wasn't clear by your post, do you have COVID right now? If not, just get the vaccine and stop being so worried about supplements.

Don't take caffeine after lunch, it has a long half life

I never have coffee after 1pm, so that hasn't changed

Ok, I don't habitually take it, only the last couple days. I'll reduce it to the 5mg capsule and see if that helps

I took melatonin and CBD when I had Covid last December. While my symptoms were mild, the anxiety that came from worrying about whether the symptoms would get worse made it hard to sleep without the supplements.

I didn't take cbd but I would agree with this. Pulse ox helped me see that what I was feeling was real, that I was in no danger.

I upped the melatonin when I actually had covid, was taking it as part of doc rev recommendations for months prior. I did take 10mg throughout my 10 day isolation (I was not very symptomatic and felt fine by about day 2-3 but continued through day 10. At that time - Dec 2020 - day 8 was a downturn for some).

Thanks all. I feel good, just wanting to get good rest to minimize time I'm down/quarantined

Had a terrible time sleeping when I had it. Was exhausted but could never get a good nights sleep. Hope it's a little better for you.

Thanks for the information on vitamin d. I haven't had a good night's sleep since I tested positive on Tuesday. Wish I would have seen the post sooner, I just took some with supper. Lol

You perfectly described my lack of sleep during COVID-19. Exhausted, go to bed early but wake up around 2 each morning and can't fall back to sleep. I took a multi vitamin along with vit C in both the morning and prior to bed with 5 mg melatonin at bed time. I'm now only taking the vitamins in the morning and no melatonin but still struggle with sleep. I'm 14 days from my first symptom with a mild case.

Still crappy sleep. I think insomnia/trouble sleeping is a symptom.

Post-Covid fatigue and insomnia is bizarre. I didn't sleep at all last night. Yesterday was my last steroid dose and I'm done with the z-pack. Now I need to drop the vitamins I guess.

Steroids always keep me from sleeping. Every single time I've taken them for anything at all.

Last time I asked the doc if I could take all the doses for the day in the morning instead of spreading them throughout the day. He said yes, and that did help some.

yes, disrupted sleeping is part of the lasting effects of covid. i'm also hypomanic but slept pretty well with 3rx; got virus last dec. and was asymptomatic except lost smell/taste. i'm now a long hauler w/insomnia/dizziness/brain fog; worst of the 3 is the insomnia; i'm part of a long haulers survivors corp group on facebook and the majority have ongoing sleep issues regardless of what otc or rx meds are used. hope your issues resolve; i just got my 3rd moderna (had the virus before the vaccines were made) so there's a part of me that hopes this booster might help; i also have immune issues so i qualified for the booster.

Sorry to hear that. The brain fog I had was terrible. Took all I had to complete tasks. Praying you get better quick!

I'm not sure you want to add another supplement, but at least research magnesium and sleep quality.
It helped me as a side effect when someone suggested them for the nightly foot or hamstring cramps I was experiencing.

Do you have gut pain during the same time window? Can't sleep from 2-4 and mostly due to not being able to get comfortable.
