I know some people that got Moderna boosters last week fwiw

Yeah my 81 year old father got his Friday.

Younger healthy people will probably have to wait I think.

You can walk into CVS or Walgreens and get a third dose any time you want just FYI.

The spike in younger patients in the hospital is just basic statistics. The delta variant is disproportionately causing symptomatic disease in the unvaccinated and those without prior infection, and that population HEAVILY skews towards younger demographics. If you have a lot more young people sick, you will have more young people in the hospital even if the percentages with severe disease haven't changed much (or even if they have decreased).

I'm seeing the same thing but I've seen nothing to suggest delta is more dangerous for the young on a case by case basis.
If this is case, and of course its hindsight, would it have been more beneficial to expose the young to coronavirus in the earlier stages of the virus?

No, given they just have gotten sick earlier. Again this is a matter of percentages in a population level but it has little to do with the severity of disease in any individual. If any one person gets seriously ill with delta, they likely would have gotten seriously ill regardless of when they contracted the virus.

The only way to prevent this would have been for more young people to be vaccinated earlier in the year.
10-4 Cheers buddy. All makes logical sense.

I'm booked for my vax first dose Monday. Where I am in the world, this is the first time I've been able to access it. And you all are talking about boosters.

Appreciate it. I'm in the study so I'm going to wait for them.

This thing now has at least 1/3 of my kid's home room class out, including the teacher.

Our school is only keeping kids home if they are symptomatic or positive. They are not recommending testing unless symptomatic.

It's working and no classes have been canceled. We need to use common sense here.

The 18 ICU level admissions are considered to have respiratory failure but are being managed with high flow nasal cannula.

While that looks awful, and it is, one good thing to keep in mind is that only 385 kids ages 0 - 17 have died from Covid between January of 2020 and August 21, 2021. That's only 0.06% of all 623k covid deaths. We are still very fortunate this thing doesn't affect children.

Should an elderly person go ahead and get a third shot? Should it be the same vaccine as before (get a third Pfizer?)

That has been the one silver lining with C19 but it seems like the situation is changing. There have been a lot more cases among kids this time around. Thank goodness very few are getting seriously ill. If that changes the results are going to be disastrous (canceled / remote schooling, etc).

Are they testing asymptomatic kids? If so they are failing your child.
