Never really against getting the vaccine. I didn't want to politicize a potentially life saving vaccine. I contracted COVID late June/Early July, confirmed positive test. Had mild symptoms for the most part, just felt like a bad cold. Never even had a fever.

Didn't really consider a vaccine because of natural antibodies from previous transmission. I am now heavily considering getting the vaccine after doing a lot of research.

I'm 33 years old and in good help. Any additional info from both sides would be greatly appreciated.

Lol I don't have a PCP. I honestly haven't been to the doctor in years. Last time I went was in 2015 for strep throat and that was just a local CareNow facility.

Give blood and see what your levels look like.
But even with low antibodies you still have T cells. But that's not measurable.

If you think the vaccines are totally safe the studies show a booster on top of previous recovery does give you more antibodies (of course). May not be necessary but would make you feel more comfortable?

I'm just one example but I had COVID June 2020. Entered the Texas Cares study earlier this month and my first blood draw came back positive on both antibody tests. That was 14 months after infection. I'll see what my next couple of blood draws indicate in the coming months.

Getting those antibodies tested will give you at least a couple more data points in your decision.

By the way, two of my kids are recovering from COVID as we speak. I didn't get sick from them this week.

That's the right question, but you won't find your answer here. I had it as well almost a year ago, and the risk/ benefit of getting the vax was pretty clear based on my research and advice from docs.

Ask those that tell you that you have immunity forever to provide a basis for that statement. Like the flu and other viruses, there are reinfections happening. The vaccine is a simple booster to whatever immunity you may still retain.

Here's my story:

Same infection timeline as you, confirmed positive 7/8/2020. Same symptoms,.

I still have confirmed anti bodies, and think that natural immunity is the best way out of this for all.

I Received my first shot today. And I did so very reluctantly, as my only deciding factor was an inevitable employer mandate. I have a wife and 5 kids to feed...

I was really wanting to wait for the novavax as I have sincere objections to the current vaccines, and although they were permissible to take under the circumstances and duress of mandates and pandemic, I still find them problematic with my conscience. That's another story though.

Do I think the vax will hurt me, no. Can it at least help, sure. Chances are it will do more good than harm, so I'm not concerned about it in that regards.

I am philosophically opposed to the mandates and disgusted with the current false dichotomy we have set up as a society.

It all is very disheartening.

Honest question, not trying to be smug. What's so great about the novavax vaccine?

Would they give just the booster to someone who hasn't or didn't receive the initial vaccines?

people who had SARS have antibodies years after their infection.

Fauci said (before it became political) that there is no reason to think COVID will be any different than other similar viruses; meaning the recovered should expect to have durable immunity.

CVS can do antibody tests.

As for a PCP and your health- go get a physical and know your BP, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels before you say you're in "good health." Lots of people think they're in better health than they really are and ending up in the hospital.

That being said, you're still at lower risk since you've had covid and recovered.

In all honesty, the vaccine and requirements to receive vaccine are going to be more and more prevelant.

For someone like you there is little to no risk with vaccines, and those that are vaccinated and have the natural antibodies are very protected going forward.

Do you need the vaccine? Probably not. Is it going to harm you in any way? Very unlikely and will help you with new variants we deal with.

And logically that implies there's a good chance that this will only become more the case with each new variant that emerges. Eventually, possibly soon, the efficacy will be almost insignificant. As I've seen argued, we're vaccinated against a disease from a year ago, and not for the current iteration. Considering how much lower the efficacy is in such a short amount of time, it is almost silly to expect coverage to be close to what's currently promised with future variants.

It's logical to expect that the current vaccine will NOT help against new variants based on current information and trends up until now.

No, I don't think that is being proven. The vaccine isn't as effective against new strains for preventing you from contracting Covid, but it is just as effective at preventing severe illness. 95-96% of the cases in hospitals are unvaccinated, so it is doing its job and is effective.

Being forced to do something against your will, even if it does no harm physically but does represent a philosophical and spiritual slight is not something I want to do again.

For me- it is being developed along a known manufacturing process similar to the Hep B vaccine. Rather than using MRNA to trick my body into creating the spike protein and then induce Ann antibody response, the Novavax uses a host cell form moths to creat the spike protein. They the take that and inject the spike protein to induce the antibody response.

The other aspect is the relation to fetal cell for research/testing and production. While my church has said its permissible for us to take the Pfizer/moderna or J&J (when nothing else is available) they are still problematic in that they aren't consistent with our pro life message. It isn't a material cooperation with the evil that produced those cell lines, but it isn't exactly wholly Inexcusable. And while in light of the pandemic and looking towards the greater good and utilizing the only current available resource towards that good, we can take it. I was hoping to be able to wait it out for a vaccine that wasn't even problematic with my conscience.

Unfortunately, I had to act early due to external pressures rather than on maybe own timeline

If you don't mind me asking are you completely anti-vaccine or just the covid vaccine. I know the situations aren't the same, but are you against schools requiring children to get the vaccines we all do as kids?

Not anti-vax at all. All our kids are vaccinated as are my wife and I. We did have to delay our youngest as she has an immune issue that causes her to react poorly to vaccines, so we worked with our doc to come up with a schedule that allows her proper time to recover and spread out the various vaccines rather than combo shots.

Some of those vaccines are problematic as well to there creation,etc. however we have no other choice as they have become the standard of care and no one is re-inventing the wheel on them.

The covid vax represents an opportunity for change and has other options coming that appear to be better options. I'm also not against the covid vaccine. My pregnant wife took it as soon as she could, to protect herself and our unborn child out of an abundance of caution. And the current shots were the only one possible before baby comes in a couple weeks.I think anyone who wants, needs it should go get it. I think organization have the right to mandate to their employees terms of conditions... doesn't mean I think they "should". Those are two very different realities and worthy of discerning in decision processes.

Those CVS finger ***** tests only measure antibodies from a more recent infection. If you really want to measure antibodies, you need a blood draw. This is what an NP at CVS told me.

FYI - it appears that blood donation centers are no longer offering the antibody tests.

Had diagnosed COVId in Nov 2020. Never vaccinated. Took the LabCorp antibody test on Wednesday. Positive for antibodies. The number listed was 85.

The original infection was like mild allergies. I have long lasting natural immunity. I will never take the vaccine for COVId.

Well, I had covid right after Thanksgiving last year and it was extremely mild. Like 36-48 hours of fatigue and just feeling beat up. Tested for antibodies at CVS on 8/12/2021 and still had them.

I suppose it could have been a recent infection because I know I've had several exposures since but never been sick at all. So if I had it again I was asymptomatic.
