My wife (late 30s & immunocompromised) received the Moderna booster on Monday afternoon. She had a rough 24 hours after the 2nd shot but is having a much harder time after the booster (fever, vomiting, headaches, etc). Is this to be expected?

I'm curious if people like me will need a booster.

Fully vaccinated with a breakthrough case.

I hope she gets to feeling better, sounds awful.

Buddy of mine that got his 3rd Pfizer over the weekend had a rough night (chills, sweats) that didn't happen after his second dose. More than anything it's proof of a strong immunologic response.

Bear in mind too that by volume each dose is orders of magnitude greater than the amount of viral particulate floating in the air that otherwise would be enough to get someone sick. The body just all of a sudden has a ton of "active sites" to react with.

Hope she feels better.

I had the booster followed by a fever for 3 full days, nausea, aches and extremely tired. It felt like the flu. I woke up on day 4 and was 100%. Also had a fever after the second does, but only for a few hours.

Booster worse than the actual illness confirmed.

Not really, no one has died from the booster the same cannot be said of the actual virus.

I know several people who have had Pfizer booster and have felt poorly for a day. I felt terrible for 12-14 hours after second Moderna shot so am not looking forward to booster but I will be prepared this time and most importantly I will be able to schedule it so it's convenient to be out of action. That's key, I choose when to not feel well.

I haven't seen the formal data, I actually doubt it exists, but this is to be expected. You are trying to crank up their immune system and those are pretty typical immune system is working type symptoms.

Here is one early report from an Orlando paper that is consistent with those adverse effects:

Regardless of the side effects, there seems to be disagreements on the boosters

So the CDC doesn't have data that a booster will prevent transmission, so not really sure of the point.

Interesting quotes from the "inventor" of mRNA vaccines. (the inventor claim is a little shaky, there were plenty of of other researchers in the effort) Although Dr. Malone is an established and accomplished researcher, he has received quite a bit of criticism, some of it valid, for some of his public statements on the vaccines. There is not medical/scientific consensuses on the booster effort.

I personally have a hard time giving full faith to the CDC until they actually acknowledge the natural immunity gained from contracting and recovering the virus. European peers of the CDC don't seem to have a problem admitting this.

Not anti-vax. I got my two Pfizer jabs as soon as it was available for me.

I agree that boosters are of dubious benefit at this time in normal patients. This specific post the patient is immunosuppressed and it is fairly clear that they benefit from booster doses.

I understand that the boosters are only available currently for individuals that are immunosuppressed. Not actually sure there is significant data to suggest it really helps them either.

I hope the vaccines do make a difference and I want to see TexCOAg's wife and all other immunosuppressed people either respond well, or recover quickly from any side effects.

The vaccines were an amazing medical and scientific accomplishment, unfortunately they are not are not behaving to the expectations we were told or had hoped

KidDoc, I appreciate your continued feedback and posts on this forum, very level headed and thoughtful.

Got third booster Tuesday. First two Moderna shots, sore arm. This time: very sore arm, fever, chills and rough first night. Next day massive fatigue. Took a nap around dinner time, woke up, 90% back to normal. Today, normalabout to hit the gym.

I would happily go through this every month. Without hesitation.

I'm covid recovered from about Jan 1.

Got Moderna first shot and had same reaction. It was like mild covid for about two days.

Then it quit overnight.

Thankfully ibuprofen was miraculous in getting me feeling better overall.

I'm an immunocompromised transplant patient and had a rough reaction to dose 3 of Moderna as well. I had a rough case of COVID in March 2020 and got dose 1 of Moderna in January 2021. Had a very strong reaction of fever, chills, nausea, vomiting for about 24 hours after that 1st dose. Didn't have many symptoms other than a little fever after dose 2. Dose 3 was a repeat of my 1st vaccination and was pretty rough for about 24 hours. Fever, chills, nausea, vomiting, and fatigue.

Still absolutely worth it as someone who has had COVID and now been vaccinated.

I literally just went thru a breakthrough case of Covid with probably 25% of that discomfort.

Yeah hard pass on any booster.

If you are willing to do that every year, let alone every month, you need a therapist.
