I'm fully vaccinated but caught a breakthrough case that hit me pretty hard. Worse than the flu, but nowhere near needing to be hospitalized.

Almost all symptoms have cleared up now (day 7) except for the loss of smell/taste and some intense muscle/joint pain in my shoulders and arms.

Just curious how long those of you who lost taste and smell had to wait before it returned. I've heard anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.

I had a similar case. Regained after about 14 days from symptom onset. Hope you have a speedy recovery.

When did you lose your smell/taste?

I'm trying to figure out where I'm at in this infection.

At this point, I can't tell I'm sick besides the smell and taste. Not even tired enough for a nap.

This is also info I need for HR, I'm almost working backwards from my loss of smell to try and figure out onset of symptoms.

I was lucky enough to never lose it. Same with my Padres. My brother wasnt vaxxed bc it didn't exist yet, and got it very early may 2020 and lost his senses for 2 damn months. Some of my other friends only 2 days. Some 2 weeks. I just think mileage varies very heavily with this symptom.

A lady at my office got Covid back in February of this year, she has still not gotten her sense of taste or smell back. YMMV

Taste and smell started going in and out on day three and by day four was completely gone.

I think I'm the same.

Looking back now I think I'm on day 4 now, maybe 5

It's just a real mind bender for me because I keep expecting to get more sick, like I'm waiting for the next shoe to drop.

Outside of smell and taste I don't feel bad, I guess I'll just keep waiting and seeing.

And it's strange. I can taste sweet, salty, and sour, but no flavors.
When I bite into a tortilla chip, all I get is a salt taste around the outside of my tongue.
Same with sugars, I had a piece of cake last night just to see and all I could taste was sugar. It was overwhelming. Just no flavors.

My coffee just taste like bitter so same here.

I taste categories but not specifically what it is.

Varies. Both taste and smell went away day 5 of symptoms onset and first thing I could smell was 10 days later and it slowly but fully returned during the next 3-4 days.

I'm curious about the pain in your shoulder and arm. I had an intense pain in my arm a few weeks ago where I could not even lift my arm but I had not done anything strange when it came on. I was literally just riding as a passenger in a car. It lasted about 7 days and I had a passing thought that it was the same place where I had my vaccine shots months ago but I didn't have any other symptoms. Just curious why you think it's associated with Covid and your symptoms.

It's both shoulder blades every time I lay down and some constant pain in my arm at the elbow joint. No idea if it's related to the virus but it came on when all the other symptoms did. I can't point back to any physical activity or strain that could have caused it. Can't seem to find any pain killers that will help it and it wakes me up when I do fall asleep.
Could just be a coincidence it came on at the same time.

That's what I can't figure out. Mine might be a coincidence as well but it was crazy pain out of nowhere and lasted for a week. So strange.

I had a very mild case around Christmas. I was lucky to never even really feel bad. However, I lost my sense of smell. 8 months later I still can't smell anything except occasionally. I also have pretty bad allergy and sinus issues but when with that I was able to smell fine most of the time pre Covid.

There's no definite timeframe for recovering. Depends on the person. Some recover within days. Others have yet to recover after more than a year.

I think the average is 2-4 weeks. I recovered after 2 weeks mostly. It's been about a month but I'm still not quite 100% but almost there.

Had COVID a little over a year ago. Lost most taste/smell for several weeks, but anything that would normally be considered just slightly salty tasted extremely salty (as in, I was questioning if the lid popped off the salt shaker and it poured in).

A year later, my wife and I both think that taste/smell still hasn't returned to normal. The senses are there, but everything just seems a bit "off." Especially notable are smells that used to be bad (rotting garbage, human waste, etc.) have a kind of sweet odor now. It's mildly annoying.

Fully vaxxed case here. Taste came back in 3 days, smell 3 weeks fully. 2 weeks for stuff really close to my nose.

Lost smell and taste about 7 days after initial symptoms. The only lingering symptom I had at the time of loss of sense was fatigue.

Zero smell. The only taste I could definitely recognize was chocolate milk.

I regained maybe 5-10% of smell 13 days after losing it, which was yesterday. Still can't tell if any taste has come back yet.

35 days later and I'm about 90 percent back on taste and 75 percent on smell. Didn't get any of it back until around day 21.
