The author's first anecdote about immigration issues is funny. Coutries with "universal" health care don't allow illegals to use it.

As someone who thinks universal health care is the only logical solution to current system I have the following to say.

I hate opinion articles.
I hate entertainment news
I really hate books advertisements disguised as news
I really really hate when entertainment news lets one of their contributors do a book advertisement disguised as news

And lastly, while she is probably a brilliant Dr, I call bull**** on this ladies origin story.

While she was 8

• She has severe asthma
• the neighbor kid also happens to have severe asthma
• the neighbor kid is having a severe asthma attack
• The adults let the 8 year old try to save the kid
• no one calls a ambulance
• the kid dies
• The 8 year old then becomes a brilliant doctor that likes to go on TV and sell books

I don't know about you, but if me and my parents sat idly by and watched a neighbor kid die once , I think we would keep that **** secret.

This was bugging me, so I did some googling. I am actually fairly sure that story is BS.

Dr has blogged extensively every step of her career, this dead kid story is pretty new
The book says this happened when she was 8 in LA.
She didn't move to LA until she was 10

When I saw the name Leana Wen, I closed the window.

Leana Wen believes in top-down government control over our lives in the name of "public health". I'll pass on her "diagnosis".
