Unintended consequences with masks

**Not a discussing about their effectiveness**

Could unsanitary cloth masks worn throughout the day actually contribute to transmission? People will take them off and place them on a surface while eating and adjust them throughout the day. This seems ripe for some unintended consequences. I couldn't find any reliable sources on how long the virus can live on cotton surfaces, but for a porous surface like cardboard it's 24hours.

Most cloth masks (besides being utterly useless) are probably quite vile/gross since I doubt people wash them regularly.

People (I hope) wash their undies after one use but seem completely content in slapping some nasty ass gaiter or mask they have not washed in weeks right over their nose and mouth. Remarkable!
