How is this not the #1 headline when discussing this new wave of COVID cases?

Did you post the exact same thing on the politics board as a troll?

It's not the #1 headline because it isn't scary enough. You can't justify lockdowns, mandates, and free money if people aren't scared. It's why everything is given as "highest number of cases since" and "percent increase in xyz". On the surface it sounds scary but in reality it's not.

Perhaps a combination of (a) improved treatment protocols, (b) high percentage of vaccination in elderly and vulnerable, and (c) high percentage of 3rd wave infections in younger (less vulnerable) population?

Good news, but makes sense.

And typically viruses mutate to become more infectious but weaker. Either way less deaths is a good thing

This chart really is all we need to know about the effectiveness of vaccines and how little case counts matter, especially now with vaccinations available. Additionally, this third wave had kids fully in school w/o masks.

I mean it is. Things look to be fine now thanks to the vaccines.

I disagree with this. The communication right now is how infectious the delta variant is with no context of serious illness and death as compared to alpha COVID.

We have the CDC encouraging going back to masking everywhere and for everyone as well as masking for kids in schools. Harris county just went back to suggesting masks should be worn inside due to CDC guidance, which has rippled down to my company who today just put back required masking inside the building again.

All of that seems to be the opposite of what you said that the headline is that things look to be fine because of the vaccine.

I'm glad the chart OP showed is good news. Just wish the good news was the focus instead did what we have going on now.

What? No one is talking about this. It's back to fear porn 24/7 and the CDC now telling vaccinated people to wear masks. That's basically the opposite of this great news being the #1 headline.

So, here's the assumptions thrown around in this thread:

The vaccine works, but only at preventing serious illness.

...which goes against the narrative...

This is a wave of the unvaccinated.

...which goes against the narrative...

You have to get the vaccine to end this and do your civic duty.

But what no one is discussing here is maybe this was is comprised of younger people and this virus isn't as lethal to that age group.

No, it prevents illness of all types, not just serious.

No, unvaccinated accounted for more positives.

No, people can get it through catching the virus, although they will be at some form of risk. If healthy and young minimal. But, minimal with vaccine as well.

But what no one is discussing here is maybe this was is comprised of younger people and this virus isn't as lethal to that age group.

That is one reason why we see what we're seeing. Unvaccinated healthy are a good portion of positives (by no means all). Vaccinating those at risk have tremendously helped us.
